Satellite dish to pick up terrestrial signals?

Postby trogo on Sat Nov 07, 2009 11:51 am

Hola todas
Is it possible to link a UK free view box and or a digi box through my Satellite dish to pick up terrestrial signals? I do have a conventional aerial but it means trailing cable halfway down a large hill which I would rather not do.

Quick answer, no.
Terrestrial signals can only be received via an aerial.
Satellite signals can on be received via a satellite dish.

I think that you will find that most terrestrial signals are soon to be changed to digital, so the conventional receiver wont work.
To obtain the Spanish channels we bought a cheap 80cm dish and set top box linked to the TV.
Your current sat dish wouldn't pick up Spanish signals as it would be pointed at a different satellite to the one needed for local channels.
You can buy motorised dishes that will lock onto different satellites, and use with a double LNB, but they can be expensive.

True the analogue terrestrial signal is being replaced by a digital terrestrial signal.
It is still received by an aerial and not by a satellite dish.
