Thunderbird
Thunderbird
I've just downloaded and set up Thunderbird but it wont connect to telefornica which keeps rejecting the user name or password. Same name and password I have used for about 4 years with no trouble till the computer crashed last month. I can access e-mail sent to my Terra address via the Terra website but it takes so long. Anyone know of a way round this problem or a way to retrieve the password.

Re: Thunderbird
Do you have your user name correctly set in Thunderbird?
Look in Tools/Account settings/ server settings.
This should have your user name in the user name field.
When you try to access your email, for the first time, it will ask for your password and save it.
Cheers

Re: Thunderbird
Done all that Gerry but thanks anyway. One thing that looks wrong to me, where the server name goes it reads : pop3.telefonica.net

Re: Thunderbird
That is correct for the incoming server but the outgoing one is smtp.telefonica.net
Here are the rest of the details:
Dirección de Correo: [email protected]
Nombre de Cuenta de Correo: username$telefonica.net
Servidor de correo saliente (SMTP): smtp.telefonica.net
Servidor de correo entrante (POP3): pop3.telefonica.net
Servidor de correo entrante (IMAP4): imap.telefonica.net

Re: Thunderbird
Bear in mind, too that it is absolutely essential to have server names etc. 100% correct. A comma where there should be a full stop (dot) can make all the difference!
Here is a screenshot of the settings. I have cut out my personal details, i.e. user name, together with our identifying internal account names, just for privacy.
There is no point in my showing MY SMTP settings as I use Gmail as my outgoing server for all accounts and my incoming server for all mail except my telefonica email account.
Thunderbird supports four accounts in my case: one for me, one for SWMBO, one for both of us (all Gmail) plus the Telefonica account which I never use in the normal run of things.

Re: Thunderbird
Identical to my settings but it still wont open up. I just keep getting the wrong username or password message. Been using the same one's since I first went on the web and with various servers so I know the things of by heart.
Very odd.

Re: Thunderbird
There's no string in my user name and I have no problems.
It will be worth looking at the mozillaZine Forums for help. They cover Firefox, Thunderbird, Lightining and all the other productes. http://forums.mozillazine.org/index.php

Re: Thunderbird
If you can log in to telefonicaonline & access your area privada, you could get to your email account(s) and change the password(s). Having done that you could enter the new password when prompted by Thunderbird.

Re: Thunderbird
Just downloaded Thunderbird to give it a try and it asked me if I wanted to transfer my telefonica settings from outlook. It did this successfuly. You could uninstall Thundebird; ensure the outlook is working the telefonica account properly then re-install thunderbird. I also downloaded the extensions for my hotmail account and it worked a treat.

Re: Thunderbird
Here's how theme add-ons can customise Thunderbird!
This is the Thunderbird interface.
This is an individual email.
This green theme goes well with XP, if you use the standard Olive Green available from the colour scheme in the appearance tab of the display properties.
Remember, too, that there is a calendar available as an add-on. It is known as Lightning and is very functional, with reminders and numerous options in its layout.
