I am not having a good week. The dog jumped at me and knocked a small glass of whisky over my laptop keyboard. And before anybody says anything - I was not drunk!!
I have had it drying out for 2 days now and it still won't switch on. Lights come on and then go off again.
Has anyone had this happen and did they ever get the machine to work again.
I am so upset as this was my new expensive all singing all dancing machine.
I spoke to insurance company and over here they don't cover for accidental damage on contents insurance so this is really going to cost!!

"they don't cover for accidental damage "..did they mention if they cover for deliberate damage, if so tell them the dog did it deliberatly and not by accident ! do you have an insurance for the dog?if so maybe you could sue the dog!
Re: Liquid spilt on keyboard
Drink was split into my keyboard on my laptop and it worked for a few days then the mother board went kaput. Un economical repair was the verdict on a £1200 laptop.

Costakid it is looking that way for me. Mine was about £1000. Hubby says he will buy me another one but spending all that money hurts. We are back in the UK on Sunday for 2 weeks so will have to fork out I suppose.
I feel a bit vunerable with only his machine over here as he needs it for work and if anything went wrong with it we always have mine to fall back on. It's s**ds law that it was the expensive machine it happened to.

Martin it is a very big ouch!
Now I have got to decide what to buy. We have always had HP machines but the comparable one they do now has not got bluetooth on it and I use that with my phone. Of course the model I had has been discontinued.

Hi
Usually with laptops, you can plug a normal keyboard in replacing the original one. Therefore a ten euro keyboard may save the day (although if you truly use it as a laptop mobile it is not necesarily practical).
It IS also possibe to remove then replace the keyboard (or clean it as I have on several laptops). It aint difficult!

Re: Liquid spilt on keyboard
A quick google for "laptop repair spilt keyboard site:.uk" throws up a lot of laptop repair companies. No doubt the same search on .es would do the same. It does sound more serious than a simple change of keyboard, so it'll cost

Re: Liquid spilt on keyboard
I think you are addressing this problem from the wrong angle. Here is my solution:-
1. Place tumbler on a table.
2. Place laptop over tumbler.
3. Leave to drip overnight.
4. Drink whisky.
Now you're in a better frame of mind. To continue:-
5. Take out all movable parts from laptop.
6. Completely drain laptop by allowing it to drip at different angles.
7. Do this with ALL movable parts.
8. Use hair dryer on a cool setting - or cold setting - and dry all parts.
9. Reassemble laptop.
If this doesn't work, pour yourself a whisky and shoot dog.

Re: Liquid spilt on keyboard
Sorry Mowser I couldn't shoot the dog.
My son has had the computer to bits and says it's a "no go". So I have bought a new one and am going to put one of the HD's from the old one in it for extra storage. Use the other one for backup with the sata HD docking station I have bought.
The 4g memory will go in my OH,s machine to double his memory.
Trouble is I am now suffering from dehydration because I dare not have a drink!!
