Costa del Sol radio reception.........

Postby scotty » Tue May 05, 2009 6:21 pm

Why do all the english speaking radio stations on the costa have crap transmitters ? Driving from malaga airport to san pedro is like being in a black hole ! Do the broadcasting regulators (are there any in Spain ?) not have standards ? TRE (rem) and Spectrum are really poor. Anyone else feel this way ?

Rant over.

I'm with you scotty
Reception is poor but it's even worse when you get a hire car from the airport and the aerial is missing.
I've never had a car with an aerial, radio yes, aerial no.
We're not meant to understand it.

There is supposed to be regulation of radio frequencies but it is largely ineffective. There are dozens of illegal radio stations, both Spanish and English, which does not help the situation.

Why do my hire cars always have a missing aerial?
Is there someone out there who nicks all the aerials?
Is it worthwhile insisting on a car with an aerial?
I usually rent from Record.

They take them off because the're always getting nicked, particularly on the coast apparantly.
I just asked for one and got one. All they said was if you park somewhere a bit 'iffy', unscrew it and hide it in the boot.

Scotty, you are not missing anything by being unable to hear/receive them. Hospital radio stations in the UK offer a better quality of programming! :(

Yes, I agree. English language radio stations in Spain are total rubbish.
