Automatic switch?

Postby gerryh » Fri Jul 20, 2012 9:07 pm

I'm sure, or at least I think I am, that some time ago I saw reference to an automatic switch that would switch off peripherals when a computer is shut down.
Is there such an item and if so, what is it's proper name so I can do a search on Ebay for one.
Cheers

Hi Sid
That isn't quite what I thought I saw.
I want something that detects my PC has shut down and then switch off my printer, scanner, speakers etc.

Are there any commercially built units?
No problem building my own, just surprised that there earnest any on the market.

If you search for "master/slave extension lead" on Ebay/Amazon I think you should find something that does what you want.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.
Amazon only have ones with 13 amp sockets.
Ebay has 2 with euro sockets but the seller won't post to the UK even though they are dispatched from Germany.

Or Non delivery as my address doesn't exist according to MRW in Torre del Mar.
Fortunately not too far for me to go to their office and collect.
Takes them longer to find the package in the pile of other packages they can't deliver.

I always meet them at the petrol station at the bottom of our road - about 3 minutes.

It works every time as they phone me 10 minutes before they get there.

That is what I do with other delivery companies.
MRW have never phoned me, they just mark the shipment as undeliverable on their tracking system, even though my phone number is on the address.
Both UPS and SUER phone me even if the sender hasn't included my phone number.
Both of them have my number stored in their phones.

Sid,
the first time you ever did this specifically Amazon and MRW how did you make it happen ?

I have just ordered for delivery and used my apartment address, but normally there is nobody there, and I want to meet at the bottom of my track.

I expect my depot will be the same as Gerry i.e. TdM

First I made sure that they knew my phone number. They should have it anyway from the supplier but I always include it as a line in my address so they cannot say they didn't have it.

I have to say that the local MRW depot is brilliant and they employ real human beings with some understanding of customer service. Unfortunately, based on other members experiences, this is not always the case.

Incidentally I am now finding that orders from Amazon Spain are arriving next day.

Best of luck. I have friends in Nerja who say that MRW always expect you to go and collect!
