UPS battery

Postby gerryh » Wed Nov 06, 2013 5:28 pm

How long, on average, does a UPS battery last before it needs replacing?
I have a Salicru SPS Soho 800w UPS.
Yesterday, during the high winds, the power tripped and, almost immediately, my PC shut down.
Did a test today with just a desk lamp, with a 75W bulb, connected to the UPS.
Winpower showed the battery at 100%. Unplugged the UPS and battery discharged in 20 secs, so not surprising it almost immediately discharged with my PC, monitor, modem and router attached.
Previously the UPS kept it all running during a brief power outage or until I had time to shut the PC down in a controlled manner.

Cheers

I have seven UPSs at home and one in my apartment. The batteries are supposed to last for about four years. Mine always need replacing every four to five years. I write the date of replacement on the case so that I can check when they are becoming due.

I have alternate replacements carried out in the Salicru depot in Málaga and they run a test on the UPS at the same time.

From my experience, not very long - 2-3 years.

You can get replacements from Amazon Spain.

Beechcomber, do you have an address for the Malaga depot and how much are replacement batteries.
Can't remember when I bought my UPS, probably about 2 years ago, definitely not as much as 5 years.

The concessionary is Joachin Beltran, Calle Veracruz 60, Polígono San Luis, 29006 Málaga. Telephone number 952360811 or 952360471.

It is a trade outlet but they will sell to members of the public. You have to use the entryphone for access.

I get mine from the Ferreteria. They use them for fencing batteries round here, about €17 a pop. 3-4 years on average before they die I find. Worth a look?
I have one Salicru and two other makes and they all take the same battery fortunately.

If you buy them from Amazon go for Yuasa.

True, but you don't really have an option unless you pay the postage from the UK.

I recently bought one from Amazon Spain with free postage for about the same price but that deal is no longer available.

Glad this topic came up because I need to replace some batteries. If I can't find any in Alora I'll pop over to Pizzara. Grateful if you could tell me which ferreteria there has them.

They should be easy to find - I think they are just basic motorcycle batteries.

Tried a ferreteria in Cartama, €64 or €32 for an economy one.

Gus,
Can you give me an idea where that shop is, I live close to Lorca and I've never found anywhere that cheap before.

Thanks,
Ray

Ferreteria Gamez in Calle Progresso. The Best Ferreteria in the District in my opinion
Coming from Cartama Estacion take the first turning on the right after the BP Garage roundabout and then second left.
From the Alora end , follow the main road and take the second turning on the left after the Red Cross roundabout and then second left (same road as above).
I recommend that you either take a picture of the battery or even better the old one, cause I was in there yesterday and they weren't on the shelf where they used to be so you'll have to ask. Take a look around the shop while you in there. I had two Ironmongers shops latterly in England and I would have been proud to have had one like Gamez's.
Good luck
B
PS sorry master Rob...didn't read your post 'till just now
