KB2937610
KB2937610
The above is in the latest batch of updates for W7 64. It will not install and my normal practice of clicking shut down and leaving it to come back in the morning to turn on and let it sort itself out while I do Breakfast is negated as it just locks up and has not completed by morning.
If I unclick the boxes therefore telling the machine I don't want it it ignores me and tries anyway.
Help please.

Re: KB2937610
Hi Lyric,
Looks to be a known problem..........
My preferred way to install updates , on seeing the Shield on the shutddown tab is to go to Control Panel updates and run them from there.
Could try a Manual download............
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=43954
Guess they will reissue patch...........

Re: KB2937610
I had done similar by a different route but the end result was the same, failed. I guess there will be a reissue in due course, it really is irritating.
Thanks anyway

Hi Lyric,
Looking at a Windows 7 SP1 64bit system this morning the update went through ok first time.
So it does work on some systems.

..and mine!
Re: KB2937610
Still not mine, the error code is pointing me to malicious software so I have spent the day cleaning terraces, and in between scanning for viruses, malware and spyware using the usual suspects all to no avail. What I would really like to know is how to delete the thing which I can't seem to find.

I'll try that after, am cooking a chicken on the barbie at the moment. But if the installation has failed then surely it won't appear.

Hi Lyric,
"I'll try that after, am cooking a chicken on the barbie at the moment"..........save me a piece..
It may show up depends on how it failed...........if its not there then plan B kicks in......
PS: at this current time there is no Plan B.............

'tis not there.
Welcome to a lump, it's looking fine.
Do I need the .net framework ? I am just googling it to see what it does.
Edit
Obviously I do but that on the web is 4.5.2 and my version is 4.5.1 I can feel a download coming on

Re: KB2937610
Frankly, MS issue so many updates, most of which are irrelevant to most users, I would not worry if one of them didn't install.
If you turn off Windows Updates totally I very much doubt that you would have any problems.
It just proves what a totally rubbish OS Windows is or they would not need to update it every few days!
Do Apple or Linux have these problems - no!

Re: KB2937610
Couple of pointers........
Windows 7 updates .......once a month, around the middle.
Linux updates currently getting two or three sessions a week.........ok a "new" release was issued a few weeks back so would expect them to be finishing it off.......

Yes, "Patch Thursday" for major updates, but security updates sometime daily.Enrique wrote:

Why is an OS so insecure that it needs daily security updates?
They have had two decades to get it right!

Re: KB2937610
The updates every few days are for Windows Defender not the Windows operating system. That's the only ones I get anyway. No different to the definitions updates for other spyware and malware applications like Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.

Re: KB2937610
OS (Windows 7) updates only monthly...........any AV/Malware stuff will be very frequent to keep up with the bad guys.........
Windows 7 has got to be MS best offer so far........not likely to get better as 8.1 has taken over.......

Re: KB2937610
Last night while Senior Management was catching up on soaps I had more of a poke around and found it was trying to update a version that was not the latest, having downloaded the latest version and done an overnight restart it seems OK, it has lost the shield. I have changed my settings for the future.
Thanks for the help and suggestions, Chicken was perfect, now for the Lamb. "Empire Lamb" as per Mr Oliver of Essex
I really don't like having to use a laptop and when finances improve early next year one of the first things I will be getting is a proper desktop with a decent monitor and A KEYBOARD. It will be W9 by then so working on the miss an issue out theory it should be OK.

Re: KB2937610
I agree, Lyric. I use my desktop virtually every moment of every day but the only time I turn the laptop on is to update it and the tablets are nothing more than frivolous playthings.

Re: KB2937610
I agree with you, but there is an option. I have a laptop with a wireless keyboard and mouse and a 24" monitor. It works fine and if I need a laptop I can just unplug the ancilliaries.Lyric wrote:
