BBC iPlayer

Postby gerryh » Sat Sep 06, 2014 4:02 pm

Just been trying to use BBC iPlayer on my laptop.
Can watch a live programme OK but when a look at a programme from yesterday, or before, I just get a black "screen" displayed.
It shows when it was first shown and how many days left to view but doesn't give a download option as it used to do.
Works OK using an the app on my Android phone.
Any ideas, has the download "button" been moved/ hidden somewhere?
Cheers

The download button is only available on some programmes, not all.
And on some platforms, not all.
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

I'm using it with Windows 8.1 and Firefox 32.0, it was all working OK last time I used it.
Something has changed.

They rolled out a new version of the iplayer a few weeks ago....
That is the only recent change.

But it has always been the case that the download button is not available on all programmes - simply as they do not have the rights to allow downloads on all content...

Nothing obvious has changed for me on laptop OSX Mavericks 10.9.4 using Zenmate, checked 5 random progs from last few days all downloadable and watchable.

Also appears fine on Windows 7 P.C, just tried The Village series 2 ep 1 both playable and downloadable. But when pressed to play did go to a black screen for longer than normal approx 10 seconds then loaded and played in both SD and HD.

All progs checked had the below options (icon buttons wouldn't copy/paste)

First shown: 9.30pm 5 Sep 2014
Available for 1 month
Duration 29 mins
Big School series 2 Episode 2

On further investigation it appears that Firefox versions after Version 28 have a problem.
I am now on version 32.
As a temporary quick fix I'm using Google Chrome.
I will investigate the Firefox problem further, probably after I come back from a holiday starting tomorrow.

iPlayer works fine for me in latest version of Pale Moon with my Adtelly VPN. I tried the first few minutes of several programmes and also downloading with no problems or delays.
Let's go Brandon!
