Hd satellite cuts briefly

Postby Dr1Gonzo » Fri Sep 02, 2016 9:01 pm

On some HD channels on my satellite receiver, they cut briefly and return. The same SD channel doesn't do this.
I presume this means my dish is very very slightly out…
Anything I can do to realign it? A kick maybe :)

We no longer have the luxury of satellite TV, the dish has been re-employed as a paella dish!

Could be one of many things:
your dish is too small for those channels and operating on the very edge of reception
your dish alignment is out
your LNB is failing
insects inside LNB
cable connections are poor
cable is poor
cable is split and letting in water
receiver is on the way out
local interference is kicking out the channels
local weather

HD channels operate on frequency settings that make them "harder" to receive, so the slightest problem is amplifed

They used to work so it's not dish size.
Do I need an alignment meter off eBay or can I do it using the receiver strength meter?
Also an android app exists I believe but no way to plug it into the setup.
I have 2 dishes for the Dutch channels

Signals vary. Satellites power drops. heat and humidity cause signal drops. All an issue if the dish is not the right size...or "only just" the right size

Depends how accurate you want it to be.
And how good a signal meter you have.
Simple "beeper" signal meters in receiver may get you "in the area" but they are never accurate, and vary from receiver to receiver.
Only pro meters with spectrum analysis will get you an accurate signals.

Most android apps for dish alignment simply reply on GPS and the camera for a rough guide...not accurate.

One for 19 and one for 23.
In which case perhaps your disecq switch it also an issue.
And 23 does seem to be a bit lower in power than 19, and thus requires good alignment and good LNB skew for the maximum signal.

Also, is this an official sub card, or a cardshare - if the latter then what do you expect from such a service!

A service where you share a card.....
One card is on a server. Subscribe and the server sends every 6 or 7 seconds the "unlock" codes to an internet connected receiver and then it unlocks pay channels.

Is it HD on one and SD on the other. Was never sure why the Dutch channels were split between 2 satellites.
Can the receiver tell me current signal strength and alignment details?

Generally yes
Dr1Gonzo wrote:Can the receiver tell me current signal strength and alignment details?
Most receivers have some form of signal strength meter in them... basic and not very accurate.
