PRINTERS
PRINTERS
My printer has "gone west" so I am wondering which printer people would recommend. The one I have is a canon and also scans and has a fax function, so I would like something similar, but I would like one which is the best for printer ink - wouldn't we all! -. I wonder if anyone know which is the cheapest to buy when it comes to printer ink, although I can now buy ink from a different manufacturer which are a quarter of the price of Canon and where to buy. I have had a look at Amazon and there is a Canon as well as a HP but I gather HP ink is expensive!
Also I know that some printers are now WiFi however I do like the scanning so probably wouldnt get that on a WiFi printer!
Thank you

Re: PRINTERS
Hi Patricia,
If you don't want to print in colour, then buy a monochrome (b&w) laser printer. Less than €100, and v.cheap to run (toner cartridge); no jets to clog! Plenty on Amazon; Brother/Canon/HP/OKI all worth a look.
Also talk to Almacenes La Lonja (Velez Malaga) to see whether they'll match price on anything you find. I find them excellent, and for consumables too.
You could continue to use your Canon as fax/scanner only.

Re: PRINTERS
Thank you for that. I do need colour, and that is a good idea to use the fax etc and scanner part but it is having the room to have two printer type machines. What I am looking for is not the cheapest of printers but the printer whose ink cartridges do not cost an arm and a leg.
Yes I might pay those people in Velez a visit, it is nice to support the locals I have to say.
Thanks for that Chris

Re: PRINTERS
How heavy a workload will the printer be expected to perform? If it's only occasional copying, printing and scanning I would recommend the HP Desktop 2540 https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-Deskjet-254 ... B00E7Q36RW This relatively inexpensive printer is very simple to set up, is also a wifi printer, and you can print from various devices - computer, tablet, phone via the useful HP apps available. If you are using a Printer for specialist functions, eg photography, then this is likely to be too basic. Best of luck, James.
Re: PRINTERS
Just a home printer. I sometimes do print of documents, but it is not the price of the printer I am looking at, it is the price of the ink. HP you have to purchase their own brand. It is the printer whose cartridges are the cheapest that I want, and also of course has to be a good printer too because I print off photographs.
I am hoping that someone will have purchased one and found out and know which printer is the best as far as price of ink is concerned.

Re: PRINTERS
Hi Patricia,
El Cid has posted on Printers with recommendation on Printer and obtaining ink cartridges .
Do a Search .....canon with Author El Cid............. Example of results............
http://andalucia.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... on#p356633
My recommendation would be a Canon Wireless Printer.....The one Sid mentioned would be my choice if mine died today.
I always buy OEM cartridges and don't have any problems with jet clogging even when left for log periods (months ) without use .

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Re: PRINTERS
Both Canon and Epson ink is available cheap online. HP ink tends to be pricier, but it all depends on the actual model. They both do WiFi printers which double up as scanners. Plenty of models to choose from - it just depends on how much you want to spend. What's your budget?
Amazon Spain has loads at good prices with cheap ink as well, although the latest models seem to use more expensive ink that models from a couple of years ago. Personally, I prefer Canon to Epson, but the differences are small. The one I suggested in the previous thread is still available and ink is REALLY cheap! You can get 3 packs of five for €12. Canon charge €56 for one set. They are fine, my printer uses them and I have never had a problem.

Re: PRINTERS
Laser is the way forward. How often do you need a fax these day? You can buy a fax service these days.

Re: PRINTERS
In response to a similar suggestion from TorreDelAguila, Patricia has said she wants colour, so a laser printer is not an economic option for her.

Yes Cid, laser is no good as I want to be able to print off photographs as well.
The one you have mentioned looks good.

Re: PRINTERS
If the price of the machine is not uppermost, but the running costs are, then a colour laser printer could well be an option.
I have recently bought a Canon LBP7780Cx, for about €500. Quality of photos is outstanding, far better than I thought small colour laser could achieve. It is also fast (30 copies/min) and auto double-sides. C,M,Y,K toner cartridges, capable of 5-10,000 copies each.
It's at the bottom end of Canon's office range, and the top of their home/consumer machines. There are also less expensive machines in their range, although this one offers the highest image quality.
Worth a look, if you are seeking very low page cost, as well as high quality prints. I'm happy to post you a few print samples (Canon and their dealers don't seem to be able to do this) if you are interested.

Re: PRINTERS
If you have an older PC without a wireless facility on it does a wireless printer have the facility to connect by USB cable? I also have a newer laptop and smartphone so presumably I could print from those but my old PC isn't wireless. Everything seems to be wireless/Bluetooth these days!

Re: PRINTERS
You can make your old pc wireless by installing an usb wireless adapter such as these:
