svchost.exe ?

Postby chrissiehope » Tue Aug 08, 2017 5:16 pm

I'm getting a laptop ready to take with me when I go away (in UK) for a couple of weeks in two weeks time. I have been struggling all day to do the basic stuff like scans. Taskmaster shows 4 entries called 'svchost.exe, one of which is using up to 99% of the CPU (there are 45 processes showing altogether) - this is obviously why it's so-o-o-o slow, but how can I stop it ? I did google it, and tried one of the suggestions, but I'm not keen on some as they are probably 'above my pay scale' ;-)

It's a Toshiba Equium, running XP3, with 186 Gb of which 72.6 Gb is being used, so not overloaded
