Windows 10 Build 1703

Postby pensure1988 » Fri Aug 11, 2017 8:16 am

Good Morning

Has anyone successfully installed this latest update to Windows 10. Did you experience any problems when restarting you computer. Is it safe to download and install at this stage or should I wait a while before attempting the upgrade.

Thank You

Hi pensure1988,
I've not come across any problems having done a few, surprised you haven't been offered it through the regular updates.

Other Members have reported no problems ........ 8)

HI Enrique

I have been offered it through regular updates. It is busy installing now. I have Windows 10 Home. Can you stop the Installation and re-start it at a later stage,if you want to????. Apparently it take 3-4 hours to install. Is that correct. I have also lost my Update History. It tells me that no updates have been installed yet. Have you a fix for this problem.

Many Thanks

David

I have updated to vers 1703 15063.540 on 3 systems. No problems whatsoever.
Took less than half an hour to update from vers 1703 15063.502.
Which version are you updating from?
Cheers

That is an old version.
Might take some time to install all the updartes to get to the latest version.

Hi pensure1988,

1607 to 1703 time will depend on spec of PC/laptop. Had one rapped up inside an hour, others have taken longer.

Update History gets reset

I'd leave it running as you may get unpredictable results trying to pause/stop it mid upgrade.

Gerry:: OP has just been presented with Upgrade........I had one last week as they are rolling it out.......

Thanks Gerry, I wonder why, as I have automatic updates turned on. I will just have to be patient. It is only up to 26% so far.It has been going since 9:30am.

26% what?
Downloads, installs or reconfiguring Windows after a restart?

Sorry, Gerry.

I meant downloading updates is at 30% now.

Hi David
The time taken to download the updates depends, mainly, on the speed of your internet connection.
If you have a slow connection then be patient.
Have a beer or glass of wine.

Hi pensure1988,
As it's still downloading you can set your "update" window to a later time, so once it has finished downloading the upgrade can be delayed if you want to work on your system

I successfully updated my laptop (running Win 10 Pro) to 1703 a few days ago with no drama. The only thing I noticed was that I had to go through all the privacy / data collection stuff and set that up again as it seemed to have reverted to some of the defaults as a result of the revised GUI layout.

Just checked all my privacy / data collection seem to be as they where before the update.
All off.

I have downloaded on one laptop successfully but the other laptop was unable to download due to " unable to update the system reserved partition " When I checked the partition I found it was full and to be honest when I googled about this the information given to solve this I found too complicated !!!

Hi Basti,

" unable to update the system reserved partition"

This procedure is probably the simplest one..........and in your pay grade ... :?:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/buckh/ ... partition/

To summarise......... you use MiniTool Partition Wizard Free to resize your disk Partitions.........I would go for 500MB for the System reserved partition.

Image Backup your system to external disk before doing the above................

Hi Enrique,
Thank you for that.
I will have to get myself a external disk before trying this - sounds good !

HI Enrique & Gerry

Thank you both for your assistance so far. I am still having trouble with this update.I confirm that my current version is 1607/14393.1593.

I have currently this message on my screen:-

"updates are available
Feature update to windows 10,version 1703
Preparing to install updates 0% "

Nothing is happening . This message has been showing since early this morning.

I tried a command " dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth". This did not help at all.I have also tried the windows update troubleshooter. It sometimes returns the error "Potential windows update database error detected". which it does not fix.

What else can I try please.

Thank You

David

Hi pensure1988,
Assuming you have made no progress from your above post...........
Reboot and get back to your Ver 1607
Run Disk Cleanup........include System Files
run cmd as Administrator....then type sfc /scannow..........this will check the OS
Download Windows 10 .iso from

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softwar ... /windows10

Using Rufus to create a USB drive

https://rufus.akeo.ie/

Reboot system
Turn off Antivirus and Firewall
Plug in USB
Find and click on Setup on the USB
You will now be back to the Upgrade

When I've had a similar problem.......I'd Boot the above USB and do a Clean install and setup the system from scratch
Check that it Validates and get any needed Drivers from Manufactures Web site.

Have fun..........

Alternatively if all else fails by a Mac and never have to suffer all this kind of nonsense ever again :shh: Might sound flippant but its fact.
