UPS battery

Postby gerryh » Sun Jan 07, 2018 11:07 am

I need a new battery, 12V 7.0A, for my UPS.
I know I can probably get them online and wait for delivery, but would prefer to buy one from a shop tom morrow.
Anybody know of a shop that sells them in the Torre del Mar, Velez Malaga, Rincon de la Victoria area.
Cheers
Gerry

Our local Ferreteria sells them. The Spanish use them for fencing batteries. A lot cheaper than the 'puter shops!

If you decide to buy online next time, this is the place I have used. €9.85 is a good price. I tend to buy 4 at a time to minimise the carriage costs.

Thanks for the replies.

I know your local Ferreteria sells them. I bought the previous ones from them but it is a 150 Km round trip as I don't go that way very often these days.

Never noticed them in Cano as I am often in there but I will have a look.

Sid
A very good price. How long do they usually take to arrive and what delivery method do they use?

Pino Electric, Torre fel Mar, stock them.
Alternatively, and worth a visit, Mailing Electrico, opposite the TdM bus station, near to the big Rodi & Rofer showroom.

A battery for an Uninteruptable Power Supply
Keeps the computer running during a short power cut.

Just got one from Pino's.
Don't know if you are a frequent visitor to their shop but they now have another shop at 14 Puerta del Mar, the group of shops on the other side of the roundabout from the football ground that is near El Ingenio.

Hi Scotty,
In a word.......Yes..........usually very short off then on, my UPS has reported two already today.

Looking at Stats for last 4 Weeks, 51 with total down time 12.5hrs and that's during Computer uptime..........Computers run from 08:00 to 22:30 daily.

A slightly surprising place for the new shop - but at least parking there is very easy.
Have shopped at Pino for 12yrs+ - great service, and Raul speaks several languages too. An impressive family business, with both consumer and trade items easily available. Decent discounts, too.

I remember reading somewhere that the batteries in a UPS are same as those used on motorcycles, maybe you could try a Moto Store for a replacement battery.

We too are in the campo and have very short outages daily usually around 9am, otherwise they are are longer and can last hours during bad weather.

Enrique - Stats? What do you have that records your outages.

I have two INGS Fortress 600 UPSs bought from MediaMarkt they are about 2 years old however one of them has never worked that well. Originally we had a beast of a UPS bought back in 2004 when we first arrived in Spain, I still have it and hope to replace the battery one day.

Hi telboy,

" Stats? What do you have that records your outages"..........I have APC RS 800 UPS running PowerChute

The outages are also recorded on Windows 10 Event viewer Logs .

On the Salicru SPS One 900 (s) I've ViewPower

All shutdown the systems gracefully after a set time.

There is no reason why UPS's with relatively small 12v batteries (which limit the amount of time the unit will supply power for) shouldn't have a larger 12v battery parked alongside them, and simply wired in. The charging circuit in the units is designed to deliver a controlled maximum charge current (when the battery is drained) and a small trickle current to keep it topped up. It doesn't matter whether the battery it is charging is small capacity (eg 4 to 7Ah) or much bigger (eg 60Ah), it will look after it just as well. This means that you could, if you wanted to, use a larger sealed 12v battery, or even a small car battery - only about €40 new - which would keep some equipment going through quite long outages.

For the standard size in-built UPS batteries, expected life is about 3 years. Larger batteries seem to last a lot longer.

I will put in a word for APC brand UPS's (SAI's), like their Back-UPS 700. Excellent bit of kit, and not expensive (Amazon.es).
Steer clear of Zaapa brand, though. We had three, and they all failed irretrievably within 5 years. (A case of size not being everything!)
