lapsed movistar sim card

Postby chrissiehope » Wed Feb 21, 2018 4:05 pm

I've stupidly forgotten to top up my PAYG movistar phone within 6 months, and now it's not recognised :-(

Is there anything I can do a.) from UK( I can't log in to Canal Cliente either) or b.) in person in Spain when I'm next there, or will I just have to get a new card ? Would I be able to keep my number ?
Any help appreciated :-)

Movistar might re activate the card for you. Lebara re activated my UK sim card when I forgot to use it. All the PAYG credit will probably be lost. Must use my Lebara card tomorrow or else it will be de activated.
Otherwise a new sim card.

Or go to a provider who wont stop your sim if you dont top up. 5 euros or so at hits for the year

I'd like to hang on to the number if I can, so I'll see if I can contact Movistar by phone (from UK !!). If not, I might have to look into alternatives, but we selected Movistar as it had the strongest signal at the casa....

You can change to another server and keep the number. I have just for the second time been caught out by the "service" they offer Ya voy so am going to change to another.

I think Vodafone has a good signal and also you do not lose your number if you do not top up.

Thanks Patricia - I wonder if this is something I can do online...... I did have an account with Vodafone as we had a USB modem from them, so the first step will be to try logging in (haven't used the dongle for about 4 years, so not holding my breath !!)

You can but try. I would get rid of Movistar if I was you. Look at my other post and see who else you can change it to. Some one has suggested telitect or hits. You can change to those on line.

Thanks for that Patricia - once I've finished sorting out the 'conservatory' (long story ;-) ), I will get on with sorting my phone :-)

Yes. I found movistar rubbish. I am trying to change at the moment but I cannot get into my account. It will not accept my details etc etc and also just received another call from Yavoy

Good luck with the conservatory.

Thanks - it's been a dumping ground for years, and I'm having to go through it all bit by bit. There are/have been mice happily living in there for some time - 2 have gone to mouse heaven, one has been relocated to the bottom of the garden, and one is still missing (I think !). They're clever little bu**ers - one of my mousetraps has completely disappeared and I've yet to find it !!

I have now embarked on sorting out my Spanish mobile :-) I called Telitec who were very busy & said they'd call me back, but nothing so far :-(
So I went to the Hits site & ended up phoning Spain. The guy there gave me a web address to port my sim (at a cost of some 13€), but on the form it asks for the "ICC" which appears to be a single digit number but I have no idea what it is ! I emailed them asking the question, but no reply as yet.

Anyone know what "ICC" is ?

That is odd! They replied to my emails straight away. This chap was excellent and very prompt to come back to me. Email him and see what he says. [email protected]

Hope you get it sorted out. I am free -almost- of Movistar, just got the mobile to do. Which I will do next week!

The Landline has gone.

I did eventually get a call back from Neil at Telitec (who use Hits). He told me I can't keep my phone number as it has been deactivated, so the Hits guy was wrong, but that may have been down to the fact that English definitely wasn't his first language !
Anyway, as it seems that I will be starting from scratch, I've printed out the 2 companies' tariffs etc, and will read them in the next couple of days. The only potential problem I can see is if my Spanish bank wants to send me a security code for a transaction, so I will have to make sure I advise them of a new number once I have it.

Yes if it had been deactivated then no you cannot recover. What a shame.

I must get on and change my mobile over.

I have been & gone & done it :-)
Spoke to Neil again, made sure it was a simple PAYG & none of the monthly plan nonsense, and a sim card is now winging its way to me here in UK. Cost was €10 (inc €5 credit) plus 4.99€ + IVA postage. I also paid 5€ to keep the line active for a year (so I don't have to remember to topup every 6 months), which will be 3€ a year in future.
With luck it will arrive early next week, and I can then notify my Spanish bank of the new number (& anyone else who needs to know ;-) )
Thanks for the recommendation Patricia :-)

You are very welcome Chris.

They were recommended to me so it is good to pass it on.

That is what this and other sites are all about. :D
