Speed test server
Speed test server
When doing a speedtest using speedtest.net why are the only servers shown as available in Germany? Is it because I have SmartyDNS installed in my router? (May explain why an earlier test had a ping of 495 and a download speed of 0.45mbs though ) I did have problems before but it's been all fine and dandy lately, up until now.

Hi Wicksey,
You should still get your "local" severs.........the default is to try for the best server. Currently for me Jetnet Granada is showing.
You can also select a server........My ISP uses speedtest.net so I select my ISP for an even better response .
PS: I have put Smartydns in my Router and the NIC adapters on the systems.

Re: Speed test server
These are a few of the ones listed as available:
Kassel CORSIN.DE
Salzgitter IT Ohlendorf
Weimar Thueringer Netkom GmbH
Frankfurt Interoute VDC
Hagen Spacken.net
Frankfurt LeaseWeb
Frankfurt Vodafone DE
Frankfurt 23media GmbH
That's never happened before.
I put Malaga into the search box and it found local ones to me and and another test came back as ping of 100 and my speed is back to nearer to 5mbps which is what it is normally. Closing it down and going back in again it still reverts to Frankfurt although doing another test the ping is now down to 70 and download speed is good at over 5mbps.
My ISP is a (I think) Polish man on Torrox Costa who trades as Ascom.

Re: Speed test server
Hi Wicksey,
Might depend on whose infrastructure your ISP uses ..........
run cmd and type tracert 8.8.8.8
After the first few entries (mine is four ) it will leave the ISP
My ISP uses Jazztel.es

Re: Speed test server
Enrique, 4th entry is static.ccgg.telefonica.net, then next few entries time out then it shows staticip.rima-tde.net which also seems to be something to do with Telefonica?
I still have a problem with pages loading very slowly. I have cleared a lot of stuff off this PC now and at least I have got the Telegraph to work again, but some pages are still taking ages to load which I guess is caused by the high ping (although down to 56 now .... it's different every time I check, but still a Frankfurt server).

Re: Speed test server
SmartyDNS doesn't matter a lot. Try using any other webpage speed test tools like PingDom, GTMatrix, etc
