Avast Browser
This popped up this morning, and it seemed to be OK, so I downloaded it. It's not bad, but there doesn't seem to be a toolbar, and so I can't bookmark any pages, or get the latest tab to open at the front.
I've tried searching for it (not googling, as it has defaulted to Yahoo, tho I think I can change that !) but the Avast page doesn't even seem to mention it.
Does anyone else have this browser who can tell me where to find the toolbar etc ? If not, I think I'll uninstall it !

Re: Avast Browser
Yes. Avast are mainly an anti virus company but they have recently brought out a browser.

Hi chrissiehope,
Although I use/recommend using Avast Anti-Virus........I Don't use their Browser. It has in the past had some nasty security issues, although these had said to been fixed I'd still give it a big NO...........

Re: Avast Browser
I have avast anti virus and found with it the browser - in Windows 7 it worked fine and I set it up to default to google search. One supposedly useful thing it had was a Bank Mode which once set off denied access to any other browser and any part of the screen, even the toolbar at the bottom ... and this was supposed to be super-safe for your banking, shopping, etc. I suspect that it is designed to work with the antivirus, and you may not have had proper access to it? not sure about that !!! Not been hacked with it as far as I know, but have now invested in a new laptop with Windows 10 and am using the Edge and its Private Mode in a similar way, also having Chrome for usual day to day rummaging on internet as my default browser.
So far, following advice from various quarters, I have NOT installed an extra anti virus, eg Avast, and am hoping that the advice is correct, that so far as one doesnt do online gaming and casinos etc and other dodgy sites, one is safe as houses using the Windows setup ....

Re: Avast Browser
So you dont use any A.V at all gasman?? I would think windows is the most unsafe O.S as thats what 99% of virus are created for. How do you a sites dodgy unless you have A.V telling you. I only had one virus issue using windows years back googling for pictures of Algarrobo of all places when researching the area. A picture was loaded with a virus. Wouldnt have had a clue without the A.V if you want as secure as you can get without using an A.V then a chromebook using the chrome O.S is prob your best bet

Re: Avast Browser
Ah right thanks. Mind you they dont have the best of reviews by the test sites. Maybe they have improved for windows ten i dunno. Glad i got rid of my microsoft products years back. So much hassle with updates bloatware etc when i just want to browse the web.
Re: Avast Browser
Cheers Enrique - yes, I did a lot of searching before deciding against the Avast, which apparently can confuse Windows 10, and they say the antivirus Defender in Windows 10, with the recent April update, is apparently safe and efficient, so with fingers crossed, we go forth into the unknown ...
All good so far after the marathon update on the new machine. Just a bit concerned that with gmail and chrome (as well as the Edge Browser), everything seems to get linked up whether you like it or not - even into the phone --- eg in Chrome on the phone today, I noticed that the new bookmarks I had put on the laptop, popped up on the phones browser ... not noticed that before ... and as Microsoft has everything linked to the email address, things are correlating even where not expected!

Re: Avast Browser
Are u logged into your google account via your browser on your phone gasman? Ie go into the google home page and does it say sign it top right or is your name already there. If you are signed in just sign out and it wont link your bookmarks etc.
Re: Avast Browser
I could try that - thanks Elusive
