Old version of Skype (vn.7) easily allowed sending SMS messages to Contact List mobiles.
Latest version does not - and is so unfriendly, I can't believe what they've done. Even Help is a jungle - well done, Microsoft.
Is there a package, straightforward to use, that allows SMS to molbiles from a Win7 PC?

Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles
I have used this for years, although admittedly not so much these days.
https://www.textmagic.com/sms-software-for-pc-and-mac/
Simple to use app, phone users can reply to your SMS messages, cheap as chips and your credit never expires.

I have Voipstunt on my PC and my phone

I sent a Skype message the other week but it was never received but the Voip ones always work. (I use it for phone calls via my mobile as well when I'm at home on wifi)

Hi TorreDelAuglia,
"If you can’t choose Send via SMS, it means that your contact doesn’t have any phone number attached to their account."
Seems to work OK if Number attached.

I agree the latest Version ......not so user friendly ..........

Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles
Thanks, everyone, for the pointers.
Enrique,
I've tried Skype once more, but Obstacle22 is that I can't just add a new contact (and their phone number), but can only "invite them to become a Skype contact".
So Skype has now become social media!
John,
Textmagic asks for an e-mail address, in order to register. Won't accept anything other than a business one, so ours is rejected.
Wicksey,
Have successfully registered with Voipstunt, and lodged €10 credit with them.
Successfully sent a test SMS to one of our mobiles (added as a new contact), and the phone received it ok.
Problem I was left with is that the sending PC does not seem to display the message sent - under History, all that's there is time/date/recipient.
Also no confirmation that the message was received or read.
Something I didn't do?

Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles
Panic over, and Skype SMS message sending now working again.
What happened was I migrated from old v7 to new v8, and signed in (as requested) using our e-mail address.
Turns out this was not the original sign-in ID, so Skype throws up an existing a/c (someone else's) under that name - ok so far - but allowed signing in using OUR password. What??? So much for MS security!
Now correctly signed in to our a/c, and all contacts and ability to send SMS have reappeared.
Plot left thickened somewhat by some Skype help pages which confirm that SMS messaging is no longer available.
Thanks, everyone, for all the helpful suggestions.

Re: SMS messages from PC to mobiles
Re your VOIP question, if you right click on the SMS in history there should be a menu that pops up with the option to view it. Voipstunt may be cheaper than Skype to message? Also, now that you have credit, calls to UK and Spanish landlines are free (for next 120 days I think).

Hi TorreDelAguila,
Microsoft have extended the EOL for Skype Classic i.e. Version 7.41.0.101
So if you're finding version 8 a problem /dislike then roll the Classic version back on.
