I backed up my files just before the hard drive went in. I have had a new hard drive put into the computer and I have put in the memory stick with my back up files on except that although the files show on my computer I cannot open them!
Both computers had windows 10, so do not understand why I cannot open any of them!

Re: CANNOT OPEN BACK UP FILES
Hello Enrique,
I do not know! Every now and again the computer came up with "backup now" and so that is what I did! I purchased a 125gb to ensure I had enough room and backed up the next time the message came up, I do not know what program it was!
Oh dear!

Re: CANNOT OPEN BACK UP FILES
This is why I would rather backup my files on an online software like through my website builder https://www.hpage.com (5 GB file storage) or some other website with ample hosting storage. Sometimes, those hard drives get corrupted or something strange happens that would not allow me to access them. Like 5 years ago, I stored mine on a hard drive and for some reason, it got corrupted or ruined along with all the files in it. I say going for a website with lots of storage like hPage or a cloud is a better alternative.
Re: CANNOT OPEN BACK UP FILES
That is good to know. It has also happened to me twice now. I will look at that. Thanks for letting me know, although thankfully Enrique used team viewer to sort it out for me.

Re: CANNOT OPEN BACK UP FILES
With crucial data, belts and braces make sense for backing up. Nothing is infallible and an alternative can be a lifesaver (or at least avoid more inconvenience and downtime). I remember, when storage was much more unreliable, rotating three backups to minimize losses if some unnoticed corruption had compromised things. I don't do anything important enough and have got lazy these days but Cloud, optical disks and portable drives allow for more than one option and I'd use more than one if warranted.
Chapeau to Enrique, though, problem-solving can be awkward enough but I always shied away from remote fixing, like a chicken. Respect.
