Skype New Version 8.3

Postby pensure1988 » Mon Oct 15, 2018 8:53 am

Good Morning

Are their any Forum Users having communication problems with this latest version of Skype 8.3. I am having major Voice problems with my Friend in South Africa. We hear each other clearly for a few minutes and then my voice appears to disappear intermittently on my Friends IPAD. i can hear him perfectly on my Laptop in Spain. We did not ever have this problem with the old version of Skype which I have just updated on my Laptop. I also mention that my Friend has also updated his IOS Version of Skype on his IPAD.

Please can anyone help with this problem. Skype was not an issue until Microsoft took it over.!!!!!!!! I find Skype Support not very user friendly.

Thank You

David

Hi pensure1988,
Use the one Gerry has posted............7.41.0.101 that is rock solid , just dismiss the Upgrade notice that pops up from time to time.

I got fed up with Skype 8 as well, which I use for sending SMS messages. (I know there are other ways to do this.)
Chaotic and unfriendly, and no way to switch off the dreadful Return=Send keystroke, whereby an unfinished text gets sent every time you decide on a new line or paragraph. [If you use Shift-Return, it doesn't happen - but who's going to remember that? MS complaints by the hundred, but they're not budging on this.]
Went back to 7 for a good while.

Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated.I totally uninstalled my 8.3 version of Skype and re-installed version 7.41.0.101 as suggested by Enrique. It worked like a dream and was chatting to my friend like normal on Skype tonight. Why does'nt Microsoft leave things well alone, if it is working. They seem to muck up most of their updates, just look at their most recent Windows 10 featured update. Some users lost files and photographs on their computers after the upgrade. Most frustrating if it was me, although I do regular backups.

I really dislike Skype v8 too, not least because you can no longer keep separate chat windows open with that version. I had an online chat session with Microsoft support recently to feed back my views and they opened a support ticket to pass them on to the development team, not that I expect much to come of it.

Unfortunately as this blog post indicates, Skype v7 will no longer work after 1st November (desktop version) or 15th November (mobile version):

https://blogs.skype.com/news/2018/07/16 ... r-desktop/

So I fear we will be stuck with the abomination that is Skype v8 very soon. All I can suggest is that as many people as possible give their feedback via the Skype website or app; hopefully that way they will at least make it slightly less bad in the future.

EDIT to add... Here's a place where 'ideas' for Skype can be submitted (and existing 'ideas' voted on):

Hi,
Don't upgrade to ver 8 just yet, roll with ver 7 until it actually stops working or has issues.

I use ver 7 so will keep an eye on things.

Hi pensure1988,
What version of Windows 10 are you running..........

On my Win10 1803 systems the old Skype 7 is still happy.........was on Win10 1809 version that it did a Force upgrade........

Was just on to UK with latest Skype no problem............I don't use Video...........try your calls without it (video) needs more bandwidth with.

Hi ,
Your system could have been downloading 1809 whilst you on call to SA.......not a problem if you're on Fibre but the "regular" Internet in Spain isn't that good for bandwidth.

Has 1809 installed yet or as Sid said "come back next week"........ :)

Hi Enrique

I contacted my Friend in South Africa from Spain on Skype tonight. Initially he could hear me but my voice kept on disappearing and ocassionaly would get the sound back in South Africa. I could hear my friend perfectly but he could not hear me. I tried to Report a Problem or Give feedback to Skype tonight and all I get was "Login.skype.com has timed out!" . I gave up in the end.

Any suggestions please

Thank You

Hi pensure1988,
Have you tried using Skype to another location ...example UK

What is your real upload speed....... :?:

I've just come off a UK- Spain call , was crystal clear .

Some quick checks on your Line Quality.....type
From Start -> search programs and files -> cmd

ping 8.8.8.8 you should have Lost = 0 (0% loss)

Average = less than 100ms

Next type tracert 8.8.8.8

This will show the hops and times in ms The first few lines will show Hops through your ISP (depending on how their Network is setup) again they should be under 100ms

Skype has gone downhill rapidly since Microsoft got its hands on it and I no longer use it. How to destroy a great piece of software in one fell swoop. Sell it to Microsoft.

I know this doesn't solve your problem with Skype but have you tried an alternative like Telegram, Signal or Viber? My trace route results are far worse than yours but I have uninterrupted conversations with all three.

I’m not a fan of Skype either and tend to use other means to make Internet calls.
Watsapp is the obvious choice due to fact that these days everyone has it. Video calls between family members is done with facetime.
Having said that, I find Skype useful to call international numbers. I pay for credit using Apple pay so the whole precess is seamless.

Hi Enrique

I have managed to uninstall Version 8 and install version 7.41.32.01 which is working perfectly. But do not know how long I can use it before I am forced to update to Version 8 again. Latest Version of Skype is the pits. Microsoft should issue a Beta version for testing so that all the Bugs can be ironed out before rolling out the Real Version. Just look at what they are doing with the Windows 10 Updates. It is totally unacceptable !!!!!!
