Win 10 "October" update
Hi
Anybody received the October update yet?
I know it was delayed but I thought it was now being released.
Cheers

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Hi Gerry,
From Bill himself..................
"On November 13, 2018, we will begin the re-release of the Windows 10 October Update (version 1809), Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server, version 1809. We encourage you to wait until the feature update is offered to your device automatically."
I'd recommend doing a Image backup before that hits a computer near you...............

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Was aware of that statement but it's nearly a month since Nov 13th so thought someone might have got it by now.
I do an image backup twice a week.
Sundays with Acronis Image 2018 and Wednesdays with Macrium Reflect Free
Cheers

Re: Win 10 "October" update
I had a major update to my windows 10 about 3 weeks ago which may well have been the October update. No problems and done in a short time. And come to think of it, I had a prior warning that an update of a major nature was due about a week before the update came up, so I do think it was the October one, done late November.

Hola
Now there's an interesting thing; my laptop eventually failed as I knew it was going to (HDD won't launch windows). I had bought a new one in a sale in August for 259€ so I restored all my files (400+Gb) and did all the updates. Winver says I'm on 1803 whereas my old laptop was on 1809

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Took bloody ages on my Surface Pro yesterday, mostly because it had to re-download truckloads of things from the Windows Store after the update (internal Windows things too, nothing I have bought or added).
For comparison purposes, bloody ages to me is 30 minutes download and install in WIndowsupdate then 30 minutes of Windows Store faff after the update (during which the laptop was so slow it was unusable).

Re: Win 10 "October" update
If you are going to go for the October update I suggest you start the process by noon, earlier if you are going out at 6! Mine took from 8pm to 0145 to complete, with all the restarts and running CCleaner to clear the cr@p.
I used to cough to disguise a [email protected] I f@rt to disguise a cough.

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Just checked mine and not yet installed on All in one PC. It should download in the background but as it's quite a long way from the router. I expect it to take some time to download. In the time I have taken to write this, It has said 78% done. I suppose that's just the download bit. I'm off out now so I'll see how everything has gone when I get back in a few hours.

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Back and 4 hours later and still installing, I can't be sure if the PC has gone into hibernation mode and paused the process though.

For this Update ensure system is plugged into the Mains, and Power settings set to Never Sleep or Hibernate.

Re: Win 10 "October" update
Why does it take so long? If Apple can do it in 30 minutes or less, why can’t Microsoft?
I have stopped my Windows PC from downloading anything from Microsoft. Sadly they will probably find a way to install their unwanted rubbish on it. As Alpinesi said, most of it is stuff from the Windows store which I do not want.
