Whatsapp / Contacts problem

Any Whatsapp boffins out there please?.....

Up until now, when I open one of my contacts ( Samsung), Tha contact's details are displayed ; including three Whatsapp options :
a) Make a Call
b) Make a video call
c) Send a Message...all show a whatsapp icon next to them.
Right now, these options are no longer appearing, so it's not possible to perform these operations directly from the contact.
Fortunately I can use the Whatsapp app itself without problems.
However I'd like to get my contact info back to normal ( because it irritates me )

Update:
I found the answer ( eventually) via Google.
If anyone is interested ( it seems like a fairly common problem) here is the cure:
# Open Contacts app
# Select the "hamburger" lines /top left
# Select "gear" icon
# Switch on "Show 3rd Party Options".....QED
