Can anyone advise as to which is the best ADSL package at the moment?

I use the phone a lot both local, national and international, I would also want to divert the number to my mobile when I am out.

ADSL Duo costs €39,90 per month with unlimited bandwidth and all calls to landlines with geographical telephone numbers within Spain free. Unfortunately this means that the diverted calls to your mobile will be charged for at full rate.

With ADSL you will be able to use Skype for your international calls for about €0,02 per minute to Europe, USA and many other destinations.

I think there may be a problem with Skype. This past week I have been using it a lot (skype to UK landlineand) I have found it to be as costly as the cheap call people my wife insists on using.

Anyone else noticed a hike in prices?

MHIC, go to the call list on your accounts page and check what you have been charged for your calls. Here is a list of the calls I have made this month to the UK and you can see that they have been charged at the correct rate of €0,017 per minute:

If you are being charged incorrectly go to the Skype forum and ask the question there. You will get a much quicker response than trying to contact the Skype helpline.

Bear in mind that calls to 08***, 09*** and mobile numbers are much more expensive.

MHIC, I was wondering if you had checked your Skype account on-line and what the result was.

Skype was taken over by eBay a few months ago and it would be interesting to know if they are employing some underhand tactics to increase their revenue.

My Skypeout calls are similar to yours, so I don't think eBay have attacked the prices just yet, but I'm not holding my breath.............

You can use Skype Out from anywhere in the world if you have ADSL. The prices depend on where you are telephoning to not where you are calling from therefore UK to Spain is the same price as Spain to UK.

John M, there are so many competing VOIP services now which will, hopefully, discourage eBay from raising prices. I think the main concern is advertising banners on the Skype software and junk messages and emails through the Skype network.

If this happens a good alternative is Sipgate which not only provides a similar but, regrettably, incompatible service but also gives you a free incoming UK telephone number a service for which Skype charges €30 per year.

My skype call list online can't be accessed, on skype the list only shows duration of calls which is a complete nonsense. Several two minute calls to a hospital in Essex to check on a patient are logged as over 11 minutes.

Something wrong somewhere.

John M, glad to be of help.

Mhic, sorry to go on about this. I think the information you are accessing is on the Skype interface which only gives the time of the call and and duration.

Have you accessed the call list from your account page on the web. You need to click on 'go to my account page' under 'Tools' on the interface, log in then click on 'Call list' just underneath 'Overview' in a panel on the left. This gives you a detailed list of your calls including the number called, date and time, cost per minute, duration and total cost as shown in one of my previous posts.

If this is what you have already done my apologies. You should be able to access this information and if you can't then, as you say, there is something wrong. In this case you should try going to the Skype support forum and state your problem.

Is it free? It says " Configure your SIP-device for discounted phone calls."
And it also says "Free 1 minute trial" I haven't bothered reading it all! I do have a fast adsl connection, but for .5p a minute, I'll stick with the conventional phone.

Beachcomber, I have noticed that you have referred to the requirement to have ADSL for a SKYPE connection. I have just a normal dial up connection and have SKYPE with no trouble at all!

Yes, I have spoken to people on Skype who only have dial up but it can be a bit hit and miss and an ADSL connection of at lease 512kbps is recommended for VOIP telephony.

It's good if you can make use of it with a dial up connection but do you experience much of a delay and do you use it with Skype Out?
