uk redgistered motorcycle

Postby Gasman on Sat Oct 10, 2009 12:26 am

Can anyone advise on how to go about redgistering a UK redgistered motor cycle here in spain and the costs involved. To give an example it's 1981 Honda 250. I have been the only owner.
Also does anyone have any experience of insurance for motor cycles like mine ,quotes, insurance companies, etc.

Gasman - There is no D in "register" or " registered". Not a criticism just for your info.

Hi Gasman,
Some light reading until the Motorcyle guys pick up on the thread, from a search of Forum........

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10064&p=63091&hilit=motorcycle+to+spanish+plates#p63091

Is it not the same as doing a car......
Engineers report, change headlight beam, ITV, Trafico and a tax related to age of motorcycle :?:

More or less the same as a car, engineers report ITV traffico etc. I was quoted €600 for the whole thing on a 92 BMW, bit pricey given it's age. If the bike is an 81 try Sergio Ramagosa, phone no :
902 889 022 they specialise in bike's over twenty years old and are much the best for old bikes, my 85 yamaha is insured with them.
The BMW is with Liberty Seguros through BMI, and on instruction from my beloved witch, sorry wife is currently for sale. Apparently at my age I should spend the day sat in a corner thinking about her the good old days and all the while try my best not to dribble on my shirt.

You could always point out that a BMW has always been an old man's bike, so you are only now becoming eligible to ride it. The alternative is to start wearing black leather, turn gay, and go buy a Harley.

I have an old Panther, (sloper) I'm attempting to rebuild (with a little help from my friends, who currently seem to be getting through an extraordinary amount of Newcy brown) by the time we've done I will be old enough to ride it, and probably bankrupt!!

Amazing climbers the old Panthers. A mate of mine got one to climb half way up a school wall first time he ever rode a bike, didn't mean to of course. That was in 1959 and we still remind him of it now and he still cringes. Good luck with the restore.

Retro. I'll ask some of my contacts re the timing gear never know something may turn up, what model is it?
Dawn. I shall be selling the BMW and if possible without getting it registered here as she that knows sod all but must still be obeyed has issued an ultimatum, ride the bike again and she goes back to the UK. After 45 years of being "organized" having to make decisions for myself would be difficult, besides I never learn't how to iron a shirt. But I'd like the details of your gestor just in case.

Panther N60 model 120

We're not sure if it's a 1960 or 1961 model as it was bought without any kind of paperwork, oddly enough (even though I'm posting you a reply) my mate has called me and told me that he has located two possible donors, fingers crossed :)

Re: uk redgistered motorcycle

I did mine through a gestor. Cost me about €800 but I think he was a bit dear for everything and don't use him any more.

Main thing you need for the paperwork is the certificate of conformity from the manufacturer. It will come in Engish, which is supposed to be accepted as the columns are the same, but the ITV place at Algorrobo insisted on it being in Spanish. The gestor arranged for a Spanish mechanic to do a Spanish one. That involved him measuring everything, which was the measured again by the ITV station!!!!

Only thing I had to change was the glass on the headlight. UK ones aim left but you can't just turn it as it is a shaped beam. Make sure the new one you get has the EU markings on it, they wouldn't accept an American one even though they drive on the right. This even confused Suzuki ES as they supplied me with a US one but then changed it for an EU model once the ITV station rejected it. Interestingly, not all new bikes bought in Spain have EU markings on the lights, but that's life.

My bike is a 6 year old Suzuki VL800 and I imported it 3 or 4 years ago. Looking back on it I wouldn't have lost anything if I had sold the bike in UK and bought a new one here. Prices and exchange rates were good then as far as that was concerned. I don't know what prices are like here now, we all know the exchange rate, but unless you are particulary attached to the bike it might be worth investigating. However, as your bike is 28 years old it probably has a value to you that can't be quantified

One question. Once a bike is ITV'd you are issued with an ITV sticker, same as cars, but sometimes with the sticky bit on the other side. With bikes, are you supposed to display it on the bike?
