What Documents do I need when taking car for ITV
Could somebody please tell me what documents I need to take with me when I take my Renault Kangoo van for it's ITV.
Also what is the procedure at the testing station - my Spanish is very limited so I see a big struggle when I go.

Can someone advise me please, how long between purchasing a vehicle and your first ITV please.. The man told us 4 yrs when we bought it. But since then a friend keeps telling us thats wrong and its 3 years.. However my (other) friend was listening to a radio show the other day and she told me that it said on there it was 3 years for commerical and hire vehicles and 4 years for a private vehicle..
Can someone in the know clarify please?
Thanks and sorry for hijacking!

It is definitely four years for the first test for a 'turismo' that has not been a hire care. Here it is in black and white:
http://www.micoche.com/itv/itv.html
As Sid says, you only need your 'permiso de circulación' and 'ficha técnica' and just over €33.
The procedure may vary at different testing stations but at Guadalhorce you need to make an appointment either online here:
http://www.itvcita.com/
or by telephoning 902 575757.
When you get there you have to to go to the office and present the documents mentioned above. You then wait for your registration number to be called over a loudspeaker and the line number that you have to go to.
I was given a walkie-talkie over which to receive instructions when driving through the test procedure.

The permiso de circulación is a white card (registration document) which shows your name and address and details of the vehicle.
The ficha técnica is the green technical specification card which has spaces for the stamp of the ITV station, signature of the inspector and dates of validity of each inspection.

Re: itv
These, and a receipt for your insurance, are the documents you always have in your glove box of your car. If you don't have them, and are stopped by the police, you are likely to be in big trouble.andygwen04 wrote:What are the documents that you have mentioned Ficha Technica" and "Permiso de Circulacion?

Thank you both ever so much
That was the answer we were hoping for!! (our 4 years is up next month!!)
Have taken a hire car through before, what an experience THAT was!
Thinking of getting the mecanico who services ours to take it through for us, cos life is too short to be hanging around there all morning... Although if I remember rightly, the coffee in that little cafe was muy fuerte, just how I like it!!
Thanks again for your answers!

I think the database has been introduced recently and probably wasn't up and running then. Having said that, I have never been asked to produce proof of insurance and I go three times a year.
But, then, this time I wasn't asked to sound my horn which I have always had to do but I had to switch on the rear fog lights for the first time ever!
