Another moto question.

Postby Marina » Thu Feb 28, 2008 5:39 pm

My son's moto seems to have given up on life and needs to be replaced. He has a license for a 50cc bike.
Does anyone know if he is allowed to ride a 125cc bike or would he need to take another test? He is seventeen and has had the license for 3 years.

Its a Popcorn. We've got two of them and neither work at the moment. We've been hanging onto his brother's for spare parts.
I'm hoping we can get one moving till he manages to get something else sorted out so I don't want to get rid of it till then. I was hoping it would last till September when he'll be old enough for a car but it doesn't look likely at the moment.

Marina, the licence to drive a moped and the licence to drive a motorcycle are entirely different.

He has a Licencia de Conducion and he now needs a Permiso de Conducion which is a full driving licence which can cover various vehicle types.

He needs an A1 licence which you can have at 16. He will have to take a test - I don't know the exact details, before he can get the licence.

Incidentally, holders of a car licence who have had it for 3 years can drive a 125cc motorcycle. In the UK they would only be entitled to drive a moped (50cc).

Thanks Sid. Looks like we'll have to give up on that idea then!

Anyone know of a 50cc moto going cheap?

would it not be cheaper to get that one repaired ?

there was one in the town crier for €250, it would of probably been sold now.

a friend of mine just got a moped for €400 locally, and it goes pretty well :)

We seem to constantly be having it repaired but it doesn't work for long. Usually it just doesn't start but yesterday it conked out on the road and I had to go out to find him. Not quite what we bought the bloody thing for!
