we were told by linea directa that the bigger engined bikes are cheaper to ensure than the 50cc motos, as the kids that do have them and insure them, tend to have the accidents on them, therefore pushing the premiums up.

I got a quote for a brand new 50cc and 125cc moto and the 125cc was a cheaper quote.

Hedonist - Can you PM me the details also as i would be very interested in your insurance company also!!

Sorry to come in on this thread - but I posted a new topic several days ago concerning the ITV for motos, and have had no replies. I expect all your motos are newer than mine.

What is actually tested for the ITV on a scooter? Now that the test is necessary for all motos over 3 years old we have to get ours tested. There is a mobile unit coming to Nerja - but how involved is the test? Can one with a basic amount of spoken spanish get by, or not? How much does it cost? Any help will be appreciated.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject please?

Has the law changed recently? I was always under the impression that motorcycles/mopeds required testing after 5 years and that's the information given on this site under the 'Living in Andalucia' section. If it has changed then mine is up for a test in November.

I do not think motos (50cc) ever had ITV's - at any age. In a couple of our local magazines /papers last year (September I think) was this:

"The Royal Decree 711/2006 now requires the periodic testing (every two years) of all motorised two-wheeled modes of transport which are three or more years old."

Following on from this the mobile ITV Testing unit for scooters has been coming to Nerja every 2 months to catch up with all scooters. They have asked for them to come for testing in age order. This month they are asking for those with metriculation 04 and 05 (this includes mine). The police are checking the older scooters in town and the fine for no ITV is €150.

I wonder if they give you a sticker to put on your scooter. I am sure that would soon disappear!!
