Your NIE number and an up to date copy of your padron.

It's the piece of paper you get from your local town hall to say you live in their area and own a house there.
Was simply a question of turning up and asking for one. Some town halls require you to show your resedencia before they will issue one.

How can there be so many unemployed in Spain ?  Surely they must all be employed designing more ways of creating useless paperwork. A piece of paper that says you live in an area ? ? ? Ireland & the UK are simpler places to live :D :D

By issuing you with the bit of paper your local town hall can claim money off central government for things like the local health centre, local police etc etc.
The more people signed on the more money your local town hall has to spend on all the services that you want where you live.
That is why you have already signed on. isn't it. :D :D

It's no different in the UK - you have to sign on the electoral register which is effectively the same thing as the Padron.

I believe the copy of the extract from the Padron is only valid for a certain period of time, not sure how long. At our Town Hall we have to pay €3.50 for the extract. So if you suddenly find that you need to produce one for anything, and it is old - you have to get another!!!

When I needed one to register with the Doctor it had to be less than three months old, no charge though (same town hall). Registering in Nerja for Frigiliana doc.

They are only valid for 3 months. Had to get an up to date one on several occasions. Velez Malaga has never maid a charge for these.

I hadn´t realised that the Padrón certificate was only valid for 3 months. Does that mean that after 3 months you are no longer registered or just that the certificate itself needs renewing? :?

You are still registered.
It's just that the piece of paper only proves you are registered for 3 months.

You don't have to renew your "padron" every three months, but you will need one that is less than 3 months old for things like medical registration, residence application etc. So you only need to renew it when you need an up-to-date copy.
Here's a query....I need to transfer the ownership of the car I bought for my daughter. Forgot all about it originally, and now can't find the previous owner. We do have all the paperwork, plus a signed receipt from the previous owner, stating the car, the price and the date.
Is it difficult to transfer ownership if you can't find the previous owner? I know Spain is very skilled at extracting money for old rope, so I assume this is possible, but at a greater cost than the transfer would usually have taken?

With some town halls as long as you are registered you can renew the certificate online.

I'm imagining we might have to re-register or something but at least we do have all the paperwork, log book etc for the car, plus the receipt of purchase so I'm hoping someone might have an answer for us before I have to go and consult a solicitor/assessor!

Go and see a gestor who specialises in car transfers.
They will be able to advise you.
I know a good one in Velez de Calleta, but that is too far away from you.

The previous owner is 'supposed' to sign the transfer form before a bank official or gestor but some gestors may be willing to 'overcome' this problem if they can satisfy themselves that there will be no comeback.

Thanks for the replies! I sort of know the system through buying my own car here but wasn't sure what the process would be as I think the previous owner may have left the area. One of those things really, meant to do it quickly but got overtaken by other things etc, etc. Will go and see the assessor who did the transfre for my car and keep my fingers crossed!
