The tax, and hence the transfer fee is based on the "official" value, not what you pay for it.
Have a look at
https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/economi ... culo=coche
and it will tell you the amount of tax payable.
Also have a look at a previuos thread on this topic:-

Cannot help wondering why on Earth you would want to commit yourself to sitting on the wrong side of a vehicle being driven in mainland Europe?
Overtaking will be more dangerous, you will not be able to easily pay at filling stations and toll booths....plus you will for the life of your ownership be marked as a foreigner!

Re: transfer fees wehn buying a vehicle
is there a difference paying at filling stations if you have LHD or RHD ?
Re: transfer fees wehn buying a vehicle
I have to get onboard with Peter here although it's not really an answer, I've spent a lot of time im Spain off and on over the years and I too have often wondered why anyone would willingly put themselves in this position for the same reasons Peter has expressed, If I was living in Spain (which I may be doing very soon) or any other country for that matter I would want to be as safe on the road as possible, I know it's not my business to criticise But I have wondered, often.
Re: transfer fees wehn buying a vehicle
Here is one very good reason. A UK car will be about half the price of the same year Spanish car and be a better spec. Even after matriculation and 1st ITV etc costs - still far cheaper than buying here. If on top of that you know the history of the vehicle too then that is another powerful argument.Bowler wrote:I have to get onboard with Peter here although it's not really an answer, I've spent a lot of time im Spain off and on over the years and I too have often wondered why anyone would willingly put themselves in this position for the same reasons Peter has expressed, If I was living in Spain (which I may be doing very soon) or any other country for that matter I would want to be as safe on the road as possible, I know it's not my business to criticise But I have wondered, often.
I have driven mine for 5 years and managed fine. If you are in the habit of driving on your own and overtaking in marginal situations on country roads then that might be an issue.

But the car the OP is thinking of buying is already on Spanish plates and so will, presumably, be bought here.olive wrote:

Yes, and it's probably a lot cheaper with it being RHD. Surely it's her choice and if she's happy driving a RHD then good luck to her. At least she's doing the right thing and NOT running around in an untaxed, non MOT'd and possibly un-insured 'brit' plated vehicle. It seems to me that sometimes 'you can't do right for doing wrong' on here.gerryh wrote:But the car the OP is thinking of buying is already on Spanish plates and so will, presumably, be bought here.olive wrote:

Re: transfer fees wehn buying a vehicle
The link provided by gerryh no longer works. Does anyone have an up-to-date link for finding out how much transfer tax will be on a car sale?
I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!
