The Government Tyre Deal

Postby country boy » Thu Apr 28, 2011 10:10 am

We will need a new set of tyres before the ITV this Autumn; anyone yet discovered how many hoops one has to jump through to take advantage of Zappy's latest offering and does it include 4x4 tyres? Happy days

I think it works the same as the "Plan Renove" for domestic appliances.
We bought a new fridge/freezer last year using that scheme it was no bother. We had to buy one rated at A+ or better for energy efficiency and trade in one that wasn't so efficient. All they asked for was NIE, they filled in the form, delivered the new fridge and took away the old one later that day.
There is a start date for these grants each year but it ends when the budget set aside for it is used up. The tyre scheme they estimated that they would supply sufficient money to change 240,000 tyres that might be gone by September.
You would have to buy energy efficient tyres which might require you to put road tyres on instead of off-road ones though

It is another complete c**kup from the government - you really could't make it up if you tried!

They announce a plan to give you €20 off a new tyre if it is an "A" rated energy efficient tyre.

Sounds great!

BUT - there is only enough money in the pot to change the tyres on 60000 cars - there are 24 million cars in Spain.

It doesn't come into force until June 10th. Result - all the tyre workshops now have no business until then as everyone is waiting until then to buy new tyres.

New efficiency labeling on tyres in the EU doesn't come in until 2012 so at the moment they have no idea which tyre will qualify for the discount.

My advice is don't wait until June 10th as the chances of you getting a cheap tyre is almost nil. As the suppliers are desperate to sell tyres at the moment before they all go bust, just negotiate a €20 discount - they will probably bite your hand off!

If the report in http://thenewsonline.es/ (page 3) is correct then it states the tyres will be 20 euros each and not discounted by 20 euros, a significant difference if your tyres cost about 65 euros as mine do.

It's not correct. It is €20 per tyre.
