Motorbike arriving late April............

Postby scotty » Thu Mar 21, 2013 11:41 pm

Shipping my bike (GS 1150 Adventure) down on the 25th of April. Also arriving is my mates Adventure. We will ride around Andalucia till 6th of April. First leg will be from San Pedro de Alcantara to Ronda 8) . Then where will we go ? Ideas please . . . . . . . . If you are not a biker then try & think non motorway and include small towns. I'd like to go back to El Rocio in Donana National park.

Hi scotty,
"Then where will we go ?"............anywhere where they have those signs with the two bikes doing endos up behind a car............
One I would recommend ........Cabra to Alcalá la Real on the A339, passes through the Sierras Subbéticas. Even recommended by our Sponsors...........

Hi Scotty,

As a good starting point, I use http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/. Click on the map tab and search for Ronda. When it takes you there, zoom out or in, until you get to see the roads with a green strip drawn down the side of them. This green strip indicates that they have beautiful scenery along that stretch ...... and where there is beauty there is twisty bits tarmac!!!!

As you sad GS owners always aspire to taking your oversized lunch box panniers off-road  .... then if you see an area where this might be an option, use http://sigpac.mapa.es/fega/visor/ to check out the tracks (get to a map scale of 1/25000). You can turn the satellite imagery on/offf or blend it with the map .... sat pics are higher resolution than google.

Enjoy .... if you're looking for somewhere to tour later in the year ... then try the Picos de Europa up here in Asturias .... September's a great month and you can view some of the confections at the Rally Piston -> http://www.mcpiston.com.

Regards,

Mike

Hi

Have a look at Lanjaron to Cadiar - lots of lovely scenery around there - one of my favourites is Cañar

The road into El Rocio has been changed and I think it takes away from the old world look of the place that drew you in as you were passing but still a favourite of mine.

dxf did you mean the Lanjaron to Cañar road up over the top ? certainly was mostly not made up road and several real adrenalin rising sections. Would not like to be pillion over them !

The circular route from Orgiva, detour up to Cañar then back down along to Pampaneira another detour up to Capilera and back then on to Bechules down to Cadiar has some stunning scenery, interesting stops Fuenta Agria for one and loads of great tapas bars. I love being up there, pillion on a motor bike would the jam on a sandwich for me :.)

The other side of the Alpujarra would be good too on a motor bike.
