Changing from semi commercial to private

Postby alisonb » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:12 pm

We have a Renault kangoo which has just passed the 10 year mark. Because it is classed as mixto adabtible it now needs an ITV every 6 months, which is a pain. We bought it 8 years ago. Someone has told me it is possible to get it reclassified as a private vehicle so that the ITV would be once a year. Has anyone done this, or knows the correct procedure, or even if it is possible? We have been told to get a certificate from the main dealer, but some friends tried that and the dealers claimed to know nothing about it

This may help:

On the other hand it may not.

Hi Alison,
This mentions getting a Certificate from the Manufacture.................. :(

Get a quote from a Gestor that specialises in motor vehicle transfers.

Maybe dxf has done one have to wait until he sees your Post.

At 47euro a time , twice a year you will soon recoup any outlay in the transfer, unless you're going to change it out soon.

Thanks both. We didn't know that the speed limit on motorways was 100 for ours, rather than 120 for cars. Mind you, it won't go that fast now anyway! Looks like the total cost is less than 200 euros, which, if I can get my head around who to ask for what, is worth it to get rid of the hassle of 6 monthly ITVs. Will report back on how we get on

An update - we got the certificate from Renault, took about 2 weeks and cost 89 euros including IVA. We got it in November, but ITV was due January, so waited til then and took certificate to ITV station. They changed ficha tecnica to show it is now turismo, and next ITV is a year away. Completely painless process, and ITV station only charged 9 euros on top of normal cost for amending paperwork

Hi alisonb,
Did the same for our Kangoo, whole process was 363euro, now on yearly ITV.
Had to get an Engineers report and the Docs where changed on the ITV in December.
Did it through a Gestor.

I wonder if you can help. I have an 11 year old fiat doblo with 5 seats and currently classed as Mixto. I want to do the same as you guys and change it to tourismo to get back to an anual ITV. We went to the Fiat dealer in Velez Malaga who said we would need to go to Malaga dealer to have it changed. I forgot to ask where it was and an on line search isn't proving fruitful.
So does anyone know the main Fiat dealer in or around Malaga?

Cheers

I think I would try the local one again and hope you get someone else. I used Renault in velez with no problem. They must have had to get it from elsewhere, since I had to wait for a while, but I can't believe an official dealer can't do it. If not, good luck finding the one in malaga

Hi JAKE.M,
Get a Gestor that specilises in Auto transfers to get it all rapped up, that was the route I took as I posted above.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the garage in velez again and we're seeing our gestor next week anyway. The Main dealer will be the cheaper option though.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi! Can any of you guys, who had Kangoos changed, tell me what exact models you have. I read in a few places that it is not possible if the vehicle has a contraseña prefix C. A friend told me that it is only possible with 4x4s, but I think this is rubbish. Mine is 2006 ICE dci 15 5 seat, 6 door.

Hi guillermo.s,

Welcome to The Forum..................... :D

My Kangoo was an original UK spec 1.9D 65, year 2000 MPV . Had it on to Spanish plates in 2006 having changed all the light clusters. Then found out it could go on to Turismo as after 10 years ITV's every six months was a bit much. The Gestor did say it depended on the VIN number whether it could be changed .

Call in to a Renault dealer with the ficha tecnica. They can tell straight away from the vin number whether it can be changed or not. Sorry, don't have my docs with me at the minute. Mine is a 4x4

One of our bridge club members has a Kangoo as mixto, and when asked why he does not change it said he is worried what Trafico would do if they stopped him when carrying a load of olives to the mill.
If I had olives I woukd think nothing of filling my Terrano with them - is he right to stay as he is?
He is very worried about getting this right, but strangely is not registered as resident (been here years and years) and goes back to the UK for any medical treatment!

I us mine for taking olives to the mill and bringing huesos back to the house.

Maybe leave it as semi commercial if you run a business using the vehicle.
