For the want of a nail.....

Postby peteroldracer » Sun May 01, 2016 7:19 am

The seat belt on the 2nd row right-hand seat of my 2003 Nissan TerranoII has jammed solid. This will prevent it passing ITV but Nissan no longer have any in stock. Does anyone know of a Terrano or Ford Maverick (same car) being broken for spares? I have tried the search sites in the UK so far without success, and the scrap yard on the Colmenar bypass has none. Any help much appreciated - before the July ITV!

Peteroldparts.... :)
Well I hope that the nail you seek is not a 'coffin nail' for your car.!
I have just a few weeks ago had the same problem, however I blasted the 'parts' with WD and it worked and now it is fine.
If you are seeking parts and advice you do not have to look very far ,on the A.Com Home Page there is a good and well informed article which could help you ..'Finding car and auto parts in Andalusia.'
Good Luck,
Regards,

Hang on....I may have found one at a place in Wakefield. If it is correct I can get it sent to a friend in Leeds then ecoparcel it....the 1st choice site came up with one, but when I tried to check if it was correct the man at the actual scrappers seemed to have no record of the info I had posted on the Ist Choice portal, and really did not seem to be on any wavelength...
Update as soon as...

Have you had the seats folded down recently? Long shot, but my 2003 Mondeo failed the ITV once due to a jammed rear seat belt. Turned out there is a locking system in case the seat back isn't locked back into position properly, to avoid someone using the seat belt when the seat itself isn't secured. A bit of brute force fixed it. Chances are it's the same part, so could be the same issue. Try ramming the seat back into it's locks as hard as you can. It worked for me!

I had problems when my 13 yr old Fiat Brava's accelerator cable snapped (at 70mph on athe outer lane of a dual carriage way going uphill - scary). No-one stocked them any more, and a telephone search of breakers yards the length & breadth of the UK failed to get any results. In the end I found a firm who reckoned they could repair it, so I sent it to them & they did - phew....! So there may be a company somewhere that could repair your seatbelt ?

That got me thinking chrissiehope - there is indeed a firm that does that (and more) but in the UK. They have quoted £48.50 to do the repair and deliver it to a UK address, so similar to prices I have seen for used belts, the snag of course being that I have to get it from here to there, then back here!
Anyone to-ing and fro-ing by car that would find this useful should note seatbeltservices.co.uk. No idea if they are any good.

Assuming it's not very large or heavy, courier charges shouldn't be horribly high, or if you're on Facebook there maybe a group page for your locality where you could post a 'wanted' ad - or even good 'ole A.com..... ;-)

It weighs 817 grammes, so around a kilo with packaging?

That sounds about right - have you tried Pharos: https://www.pharosparcel.com/Parcel-Delivery-Spain I've used them a few times & they were very reasonable. Not sure if they do Spain -Uk tho'...

Latest...part is on Ebay, who will not accept my credit card as it has Spanish billing address, and PayPal's records show an old card as identification so will not let me log on without a telephone call to America....Solution is to get grandaughter in UK to buy it using her EBay acount and Royal Mail to send it @£12.50, with me transferring the money to her account.
It really is so easy living here and buying things....NOT!
