Car Hire Yellow Spanner

Postby Ambre Solaire » Sun Jul 15, 2018 10:28 am

Help ! Hired a Renault Clio car, yellow spanner "realizar revsion" 10 dias is illuminated. We have hired until end October I contacted hire company who said it is ok. Contact them if it says red stop !! Unfortunately I do not speak Spanish does this mean it needs servicing ? We are 90 km from Malaga so dont want to be fobbed off if we drive down there.

Many thanks

Hi Enrique thanks for your response. Our concern is hiring until end October if it is not serviced. 13,000 kms on the clock it could need a full service. Living in the camp don't want red stop to appear !

Far too often a car is serviced but the service interval software not updated. At least this is better than them just resetting the interval but doing no service! If there is no owners' service book in the car (never is) you could ask them when it was last done, and what service?

Often the service will only be oil and filter and as it's only done 13k kms I wouldn't worry too much.

Hi,
Normall service intervals 18000 miles/ two years
If it anoys you having it on , Google reset yellow service light.
Just a case of scrolling through the display and holding button until service interval flashes, hold and it will reset.

Strange that though an amber, traditionally a warning, indicating all well. Particularly from the nation that gave the Aviation World the concept of a dark cockpit, no lights all is well.

I doubt the car hire companies get the cars serviced anyway. Our last problem was a catalytic converter failing - now that is fun. NOT!

Nothing to worry about. You could run it for years and it would not break down. The only thing is the oil will be thin and not do its job as well but thats not your problem.

Oil change at 18,000 miles? No-one interested in engine life on this one, then...
I do hope it wasn't a diesel !

18000 is the norm now. 18000 or 2 years on Nissan Commercials. Mercedes and BMW similar for there cars. The new oils are very good these days.

My new SEAT is 30000km or two years before its first service. OK, the oil costs about €50 but it saves on service charges over time.

You won't find many experienced car mechanics doing this on their own cars, irrespective of how expensive an oil is used.
Like many other things, a case of "fine for other people, but not good enough for me".

It doesn’t affect me as after 2 years it will only have done about 14000km.

My Porsche Boxter was every 20,000 miles. Got a Jaguar now and they insist on an annual service.
