Search internet and compare prices, just type in carhire malaga...I have used numerous carhire firms and only had problems with one however many others have used the same one and found them ok..I think its trial and error..Goldcar was one to stay away from but recent reports have been more positve.Delpasso have been mentioned several times in a negative view.A lot depends on wether you intend to buy your own insurance to cover the excess should something go wrong like an accident, theft etc..If you take the carhire companies insurance then it is better to shop around because they can differ quite alot.I have used zestcarrental several times and although i have found cheaper carhire their own insurance is very reasonable and i have had no problems so far..They seem to offer carhire with the better carhire companies...

I have used Goldcar several times without any problem. Centauro I have also found pretty good. The one I would stay away from is Firefly, who really do the hard sell on the additional insurance, also have huge queues. I have always bought the top-up insurance from specialist insurance firms in the UK, who charge about £35 for 12 months cover. Not sure if they have similar companies in Spain.
The main diadvantage of taking out your own insurance is that the car hire company will take a large credit card deposit in case you have an accident. If you don't have an accident they clear it off your card, if you do, then you can claim it back from the top-up insurance company.

Martin Lewis has got a good section on Car Hire:-

Until very recently, I regularly hired cars when in Malaga; 3 times a year or more. Almost all of them have worsened over the years. It used to be just queues and expensive fuel but it's got more serious especially if, like me, you have £35/year excess insurance and wave away their overpriced, oversold package.
Tripadvisor has more than one lengthy thread but I can't stress enough do not use carmalagahire.com - I'm not the only one who's spent months getting justice out of them. Malagacar.com (similar name, totally different) have been fine. It got to the point where I just used Alamo/Enterprise (pricey but great) or, seconding a recommendation above, Zest (agent/website) to book a car from CarGest.
None of the companies Zest deals with has a ludicrous excess, which has a lot of advantages. No big chunk held against your credit card, no pressure selling of extra insurance and, in my experience, no searching for non-existent "damage" when handing the car back. The only minor downside to CarGest via Zest is a €30 add-on for collecting late at night and their cheaper cars can be sold out if not booked well in advance.
