If you are handy with spanners, this is a repair kit (from fleabay) that can sort the problem for a while:

It bought me a year before I had to bite the bullet and spend hundreds on a new motor!

Glad you got it diagnosed

Theres a shop in malaga that repairs starter motors. We had a opel sintra one repaired for 100e, and a ford transit one..

Rebuild.. Nobody said they wanted a new one ?

They said about 80 euro labour and I think the starter motor around 150

The Malaga option is out of the question because the car, which is not going, is in Estepona.

I'll keep you all posted!

Actually, I've just looked up the price on a web site I regularly use for my Td5 spares and a Freelander new starter motor is either 130 GBP or 150 GBP (neither is a LR official branded part) and the latter price will get you a Denso part (the original equipment maker) so I will revise my earlier comment 'cos you may well be getting a new/refurbished one and not just a repair to the existing one.
Best wishes
