Renault Clio 1.2 Tourisma 2005

Postby pensure1988 » Thu Feb 07, 2019 9:06 am

Hi

Need help with Engine Whine whilst driving around 100km/hr to 120km/hr in 5th Gear with Gear lever popping our ocassionally and having to drive in 4th gear. Are there any other Forum users had this problem with their Clio's and could give me some advice on this Car Problem which does not happen using the other Gears. My Mileage is 136,300km at present.

Thank You

David

In short the box needs an overall. Bearings definitely and possible synchros. May be cheaper to buy a second hand low mileage box. There is a place near Estepona that overalls autos but not sure if they do manual boxes.

Thank You, I will look into that aspect.

My Local Garage is having a look at the Gearbox on Monday and giving me a quote presumably. I shall know more then.

Could be a bearing but, before any expensive overhaul or replacement, my Renault 1.4 5 speed box (and I think your 1.2 is the same or similar) can be known to get a slackened big nut. This is cheaper to remedy, so make sure your garage has heard of, or will check for this first. With luck, that and a fresh gearbox oil will deal with your whine and jump out (the symptoms tie in with slackened big nut) problems will be gone for reasonably cheaps.
