annual car rental excess insurance

Postby peteroldracer » Wed Feb 27, 2019 4:23 pm

We seem to be making more and more trips to the UK and am fed up at charges by the hire firms for insurance to cover the excess. I have trawled this forum and followed a few links but all are for UK residents only - bar one at very high cost for Spanish residents.
Is there anyone on here who has such insurance, but who is resident here with no UK address?

Have a look at https://www.confused.com/car-hire-excess-insurance. Other sites exist on Google.
I live in Spain, no UK address, and have had no problem obtaining cover for car hire in UK using my Spanish address.

I took out an excess policy with Atlas, I haven't got more details to hand, but that was for hiring in the UK using my Spanish address. All done online. Never had to put it to the test though! It was accepted with no problems at the hire car desk

Followed gerryh’s link and signed up with confused.com (seemed appropriate somehow..) for €10 more than the Axa price for 7 days. Thanks gerry!

I use this company:

There's no problem being a Spanish resident. I paid 40 pounds for a year's cover.

Was just going to add icarhire. I used them for yonks until I bought my Spanish car. Although I'm UK resident, I remember reading in the docs that UK hire was also covered and I would still be covered for car hire if my residency changed. Good annual cover for the price (I used to get a 10%, £4 discount on renewal) and they confirmed I was covered for the cost of two tyres I ripped up while driving like a dork.
