Animal-free circuses

Postby hillybilly » Sat Feb 06, 2010 6:17 pm

Priego de Córdoba has become the first municipality in Córdoba to ban circuses that use animals in their shows.

Priego joins Castilleja del Campo in Sevilla who, a week earlier, became the first municipality in the South of Spain to do likewise.

I do think the tide is turning in Spain regarding animal cruelty, Seprona seem to be genuinely interested in poisoning cases, and I meet more and more spanish people who love their dogs as much as us soft brits do.........and I am talking about real dogs not those they like to dress up like children and tuck under their arm

Its good news.....

We went to see Cirque du Soleil last night at the Royal Albert Hall. My 16 year old (not easily impressed :( ) gave it 9 out of 10  It was expensive, but proves there really is no need for real animals to be involved. Glad things are changing - I have noticed a (slight) difference in Spain myself over the last 20 years or so and I''m hopeful for the future :D

The Cirque du soleil company is based at the Bellagio Hotel on Las Vegas boulevard, we were visiting there at new year and my missus insisted we see the show, I was a bit pessimistic but actually loved it, the aquatics are something else, glad you enjoyed it!

Looks like you're correct fred, there are a number of productions by Cirque du soleil, the one I was referring to is "O" which is permanently based at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, the reason I use the phrase permanently based is because "O" is a production which requires a specially built water tank containing 1,500,000 gallons of water the cost of building this special theatre was I believe 100,000,000 dollars (a hundred million) that's why it "O2 is permanently based at Bellagio, sorry for the confusion.
