Someone to look after our dogs?

Postby caboodles » Mon Jan 21, 2013 12:56 pm

Hi there,
We are in Alora and we are thinking about looking for someone to look after our two fantastic dogs for two months during the summer, they are a cross between a welsh border collie and a golden retriever and they are super soft. We want to travel around Spain and we don't think they would enjoy it. They will be aged 10 months and they are fully vaccinated, and they are due to be castrated in April so they will be castrated obviously for the relevant period. Also they live outside in a big kennel and are excellent around children as we have two small children, they are walked three times a day as they have quite a bit of energy. We will supply all food, toys, chews and bedding enough for two months anyway, and we were wondering if anyone would like to take them on obviously for remuneration.

Hi Caboodles
Just wondering if you might reconsider taking them with you? We used to travel from Spain to work in France for 2-3 months at a time and we took our dog with us, then we took in another dog, so the two came with us! - granted we have a suitable 4x4 vehicle with lots of space in the back which coverted to a mobile kennel for the dog/s when accommodation was not suitable .... it would depend on what sort of vehicle you and your children will be travelling in as to whether there is room for the dogs as well, and what sort of accommodation you will be staying in. Would dogs be accepted? Are you camping - ideal for dogs?
If not, and if you don't find anyone to dogsit, you need to look up your local Residencias (kennels) and check them out - try a 2 day stay for the dogs to check out their reaction before you leave them for such a long period, and be sure of the kennels' quality of care ... some have a terrible reputation :silent: and some are doggy heaven!

Hi yes, thanks for the input. We looked at two kennels with excellent facilities and, of course, you pay for what you get! So instead of paying 1000 Euros on kennels we are considering taking them with us. We actually have three dogs and the older is very quiet and likes to travel, but we are having an adventure which we will incorporate all three into! Should be fun I will let you know how it goes. We are going to stay up in Asturias and Galicia. No solid plans yet. We are either going to rent a place in the wilds or we are thinking of buying a camper van and take one car for the dogs. Are we mad? Yes!

Hi Caboodles

There's a website I think called work away. Here you could advertise for house and dog sitters...you provide basic provisions and board, and the work away does the work. It works for them that they get to see a new area or country, and learn a new culture, or working holiday.

Looks promising?!

we are not far away, but i dunno, would you want someone to stay at your house or just visit every day to feed / pet / play / walk ?
