It has to go in a box in the hold. Only BA and Monarch as far as I know are licensed to carry freight (I'm afraid it is freight) and it will cost a lot, probably more than you and your partner. Easyjet and Ryanair are not allowed to carry, and as the U.K. is non Shengen you cannot have treasure on your lap.

It is £600 or thereabouts each way. I just had to find out this week. That is British Airways and Monarch!

You would be better off using a Pet Courier, less cost and stress for the Dog especially if it likes travelling in a car.
