Occasionally see these in our garden, never seen a live you yet.
It has very small legs.

The cat was chasing one less than a minute ago by coincidence! We've always called them slow worms but I see on Googling that they don't have any legs at all, although the ones here have only very tiny ones and seem to be quite useless. Perhaps part of that family?

Having 5 cats I suspect that is why I've only seen dead ones but it didn't seem to have any bite marks.
The ones we have seen have only been short, this one about 3" long.
I thought slow worms were longer?

It is a newt. Poor little thing! They are harmless.

Those are "inches": a very old and now antiquated form of linear measurement, which was abandoned by engineers and scientists almost 100 years ago, in favour of a more modern metric system.
