What Should I Be Paying

Postby Bugsbunny » Mon Nov 23, 2009 2:42 pm

Buenos Dias everyone!

I am permanently resident in the UK but earlier this year I inherited my father's apartment after he passed away. All the inheritance tax has been paid and I now have the deeds in my name. I keep reading threads about tax that needs to be paid by non residents. Can someone please explain it to me plain and simple (if possible)?

Thanks in advance

You should also be paying IBI (local rates) and basura (rubbish collection)

Thanks Beachcomber. I haven't got a clue where to start though. All my father's DD's have been transferred over to me so the water, electric, 'ayuntamiento de Torremolinos' and the community charge are already being paid. I thought (probably incorrectly) that the refuse collection was included in the water rates. Perhaps you could put me right on this one?

As for IBI, how do I find out how to pay this? And as for the other forms mentioned for the non residence tax, blimey riley I don't know where to begin! Do I have to get a solicitor or can friends who are resident perhaps help me sort this out? This is really scary for me as I don't want to be doing anything illegal but don't know where to start in getting it all sorted.... :?

Sorry - me again. I think I may be getting somewhere. When my solicitor went through everything with me initially, she mentioned 'IBI from the Town Hall'. Is this the same thing as the Ayuntamiento De Torremolinos? If so, it's already set up as one of the DD's! Fingers crossed.....

Yes, Ayuntamiento is the town hall.

See what your lawyer comes up with then post again if you have any further queries.

The one thing that will not be on direct debit is your annual non-resident income tax. You have to take the initiative to make this declaration as detailed in the links I gave in an earlier post.

Water and rubbish collection is not normally included in the same bill. I know that in Benalmádena they aren't but I don't know for sure about Torremolinos. Perhaps someone with an apartment there can confirm.
