Electronic Payment & Filing - Tax Return

Postby xvdbe » Wed Jan 06, 2010 3:21 pm

Being a newcomer on this site, I have spent hours going through it, being amazed at the wealth of information it contains.
I have been puzzled however by the seamingly recurring complaints related to tax return: fee charged by fiscal representatives, getting the forms, the labels, going to the bank, to the tax office, having to be in Spain for filing & payment, not to mention the language problems, apart from being time-consuming.

Yet ALL those problems can be avoided by using the (free) AEAT Electronic payment and filing system!.

I have been using it for a number of years (first with form 214 and now 210), paying and filing my non-resident taxes in a number of minutes, from my home country. It is much more simple to use that what the "Instructions" would suggest.
The User Certificate needed (free on www.cert.fnmt.es) can also be used to access otherwise restricted, useful information at the Land Registry, Municipalities, Agencies, etc.

This cost/time saving electronic approach doesn't seem to be a popular subject on this site. Have I missed the topic in my reading?

Very true - I use one - but you do need to be in Spain to actually get the certificate verified although you can apply for it online.

It may have changed and I didn't have a need to check recently, but this processing was carried out at the Spanish General Consulate in my country. For those interested, it may be worth checking if the Spanish Consulates in the UK offer the same service.

That's a good point.

I just checked out the instructions and it specifically mentions foreign consulates as being places where you can get your certificate authenticated.

I had a similar problem initially.

You have to set the Internet security level at Medium and also add the two fnmt sites to the trusted sites list.

There are instructions on the Fnmt site here

http://www.cert.fnmt.es/index.php?cha=c ... aq-content

It doesn't mention IE8 but the solution should be the same.

It worked fine for me.

El Cid,

Bingo, set security to medium and enabled all the settings as per instructions
I had already listed the trusted sites

Everything worked and I received my codes.

I guess now I contact the Embassy here in Dublin to confirm identity

Thanks again
