I wonder if Sid could clear up a confusion?
If making a joint return, both parties can claim an allowance (but not a personal allowance).
Does this mean both can claim the 2,000 general allowance on a joint return?

If you are using the padre program then it will work it out for you, and apply the appropriate allowances. You can display the results to see if you are better off making a joint declaration or two separate ones.

We have a Gestor do our return, so I will ask them.
I was previously told a joint return would be better (hopefully for us?)
I just thought someone would know if you are both entitled to the general allowance on a joint return.

For a joint declaration you only get one 2000 allowance.

You get one personal allowance of 5550 plus any age allowances (which are separate from the personal allowance). For example, if you are both over 65 you get 1150 each. On top of that there is another 3400 for making a joint declaration.
