NIE Expired

Postby costakid » Sun Jul 02, 2017 5:07 pm

Ive just had a letter from the water board stating that my NIE/CIF/ DNI number is not recognised on there system. Do you have to renew your NIE or is it for life? I always understood you only ever got one number. I have had mine for 14 years or so. Where do I renew it if I have to?

Strange because we have been with same water company for 14 years. Now they say the fiscal data is wrong and our NIE is out of date.

Hi costakid,
So what checks out (NIE) on the AEAT site............ :?:
UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity.

Did you sign up with the water company using your passport?
As you know, passports are renewed every 10 years and the passport number changes.

It was 14 years ago but I am sure we used our NIE but I will go to Hidralia in Rincon this week and ask them what the problem is. Can you check your NIE out online? A friend told me that you keep the same number but have to go every five years and renew at the Police station. I got ours at the main station in Malaga city. Could I go to Policia National in Rincon if I have to renew it or do I have to go back to Malaga.

As has been said before, you never need to renew it. Sometimes you may need to provide a recent certificate but that is not what they are asking for.

They asked for the NIE number and accepted the one that we have had since day one. I had a copy on my iPhone which was acceptable. I thing Gerry was right and all those years ago we must have used a passport number as iD.

Yep, common problem with Utilities. My friend couldn't register with Endesa and then discovered that he had used his passport number originally but it had since changed when renewed. Nie is best as it stays the same.
