Mobile phone SIM registration.
Mobile phone SIM registration.
Just received this circular from 0044.com whom I bought my Spanish mobile SIM from some years ago:
=====================
Spanish Vodafone PAYG SIM cards
You may have recently read or heard about new Spanish legislation regarding the registration of Pay-As-You-Go Spanish SIM cards under new Spanish anti-terrorism laws.
Whilst there are key deadlines to register by there is an extensive period of grace for existing SIM users up to November 2009.
If further Vodafone updates are provided then we will update all 0044 customers via email accordingly.
However, in the meantime we strongly recommend that you act now to register your Vodafone SIM if you have not already done so.
This can be done by taking your Spanish Vodafone SIM and identification (ideally a passport and proof of Spanish address) to any Spanish Vodafone store the next time you visit Spain and before 8th November 2009. You may then request that the SIM is registered in accordance with the new laws and continue to use it in the normal manner. The deadline for completing the registration is 8th November 2009 via a Spanish Vodafone store otherwise the network will terminate the number permanently and any credit will be lost. This is the only registration process available and needs to be carried out locally in Spain, at a Vodafone store, in person.
For customers who have purchased a Happy Movil Spanish SIM during 2008 the registration and activation needs to be completed in accordance with the user guides provided and there is no need to visit a Spanish retailer.
Please ensure you act now and before November 8th 2009 to ensure your Vodafone SIM is registered and service maintained.

Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
Is a utility bill sufficient to prove address?
Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
I have also received the same notification from 0044.com, and had a text from Amena ..now Orange, telling me if I don't register I will be ex-communicated..
I would say that a utility bill should be sufficient to satisfy proof of address, in practice I always take all of my 'paperwork' when trying to prove who I am and where I live..The Spanish love copying everything.!

We don't live permanently at our Spanish address, and don't have any utilities, so no bills !! We only bought our SIM (for a vodafone USB modem) in September, and they took a note of my passport number at the time, so do you think I am already registered ?

Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
According to the Prepaid card manual on the Vodafone.es website you need NIE or Passport number to register

I am sure if you give them a call they will be able to help you

Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
I have been in 2 Movistar shops to register mne now, but neither knows anything about registering them!
I take it, it is for all spanish sims, not just vodafone ones?

Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
Yes it is all PAYG sims. Apart from those purchased recently when they would have registered it against your passport at the time. You have until October 2009 to do this. I have spoken to Movistar about this and you have to do it personally in a shop. They gave me a copy of the registration.

There should be an outlet in El Ingenio shopping centre in Torre. If not a Vodafone, there is definately a Phone House

Re: Mobile phone SIM registration.
Just filled in all my details on Vodafone.es website, including address & NIE/passport No:, for a PAYG. Does anyone know if that counts as registering under the new legislation? The website never used to ask for all the extra info when I was on it a while ago, so I wondered if this will save me a trip to a Vodafone shop
