Metal crates for dogs
Metal crates for dogs
Does anyone know of a reputable online supplier of dog crates in Spain please? The metal ones to use in the house. I have tried to get a Croft one from the UK but this does not seem to be possible but these are the kind of quality I am looking for

Jool,my spanish pet shops sells them in La Linea, but they are not on show, you have to ask for them.
If you havent already asked your pet shops,i would pop in and see if they have them,if they dont chances are they will order you one.

Would add to my previous post, they also sell extremely good heat deflective covers for crates to keep dog cool in the car.

Hi jool,
In case you have never used one......... take the intro very steady.......leave the door open and have some of the favourite treats in side. Make it a fun place for the dog to be in.
I use one in my yard and when moving cars in and out , just call out "in" and the two of them race to see who can get there first.

Argos not an option as too specialised ? sorry I don't underdstand that. The small cage I have for Scally was from there, a simple fold one down with tray and cushion £12.50 in the sale.
Re: Metal crates for dogs
THanks for all the answers and web links...I will look into them
I am looking for large strong crates as my youngsters are large dogs and can destroy pretty much anything if they put their mind to it........and I am in Spain so delivery from Argos to here via courier service is pricey........
Thanks Enrique, I do know about the need to introduce slowly and will do so - food will work for them any time!

Re: Metal crates for dogs
Jool,if you come to a complete stand still regarding the crates,if you would like me to go and price up the size you want from my pet shop,i will buy and send it to you if you want.
We got a friend to bring one over for us from Argos a few years ago until we found them here in spain. My one is sturdy,it holds my 46kilo bully in it(that was purchased here in Spain)If i remember rightly i think it was about 60 Euros, which is far more pricey than Argos..

Jool, have you had a look on ebay?

Plenty on there, and just because they dont mention shipping prices to spain, doesnt mean they wont ship them to you.Its worth asking them,or even phoning them to let them know you are completley genuine.Good Luck.x

Re: Metal crates for dogs
Hi Peach,
60 euros sounds a bargain to me and I wanted to thank you most sincerely for your offer...I may need to take you up on that as it is proving very costly to get one from the UK (eg 45 GBP for shipping) even via E-bay who do stock the ones I am interested in (those you recommended Murbisa so thanks to you as well) so your link was incredibly helpful, thanks again. I think I can arrange courier collection from your area
I am still researching but the most important thing I need is that the tray base is metal and not plastic and that the metal is galvanised and coated so they don´t rust..........and I think we will need the 42 inch size but I will out this on hold now until after Friday........
Have a good time and thank you for your help again

Re: Metal crates for dogs
Have you contacted any of the animal charities to find out where they get the crates from?
Re: Metal crates for dogs
Hi Avellana, yes I have looked at those but they all rust very easily, even ones used inside seem to go rusty from the dog´s saliva, hence my need for specific galvanised and strong ones...........but thanks for the idea

Jool, the ones i have got via Argos and the pet shop here in spain all have plastic bases,a metal crate, but a plastic base for the dog to sit on.I am still researching but the most important thing I need is that the tray base is metal and not plastic and that the metal is galvanised and coated so they don´t rust
If you want me to find out if the pet shop sells metal base trays,i can ask for you.
Are you sure you want it completely metal(metal base tray included),or have i got it wrong?
If you want it all completely metal including a metal tray surely wouldnt that fry the dog in the summer?Plus, the plastic would be cleaner and cooler for it.The plastic is very hard wearing surrounded by a metal cage (6 sided)
Re: Metal crates for dogs
Plastic trays never last with big dogs. The ones we had got chewed and cracked over the years. Metal trays are so much better. And no - they don't tend to get hot.

Re: Metal crates for dogs
Ive had staffies in the plastic bottomed crates before,no damage was ever done, and my 46kilo bully plus my lady one (66kilos for the two dogs) have both squeezed into the plastic bottomed tray crate i have now,its never cracked, its still in as good a condition as it was when i bought it 2 years ago
I suppose it depends if your dogs are chewers or not.My two arent, nor do they scratch at the base tray

Re: Metal crates for dogs
Thanks - one dog is a real chewer and this is the need for the crate with metal tray, we now need a new internal door..........she has destroyed kongs and all sorts........and we will only use it indoors but the saliva and humidity problem means we want a galvanised one........we are on the coast so it is more humid air here.............I have never had a dog that chews before and she has cost us a fortune, she has even chewed the fridge!
Re: Metal crates for dogs
The two I have got are at least 15 years old, possibly more. They were used for Bullmastiffs for many years - mostly in the car and also for puppies when I bred. The smaller one which has a metal tray is still going strong. The bigger one which had a plastic tray lost its tray a long time ago. I use it in the car now for the pugs and just put vetbed in the bottom. Neither has gone rusty so I think I have had my moneysworth from them. They were both strong and galvanised.
