Eye Laser treatment

Postby katy » Fri Jan 29, 2010 11:46 am

Has anyone had their eyes lasered? I now need glasses to read and it is a pain. I lose them, break them, forget them!

If anyone has where did you get them done and was it successful. Seen some advertised at £495 and others at £1845 so a bit of difference on price. The latter has treated some celebs so may account for the price hike.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of laser treatment. I know quite a few people in UK that have had it done and swear by it. But all of those people needed to wear glasses all of the time. I was thinking of speaking to my optician in UK about it when I go for my next eye test, as I also hate wearing glasses, and all the business of taking them off, putting them on 100 times a day!
You go first Katy, then let me know!
There was a long thread on here about a year or so ago, with someone in that field posting advice.

P>S> The prices have come down drastically in UK, my friend that had it down about 5 yrs ago paid £3000!

Had it done 10 years ago. Brill! Wish it had been available earlier for me. Optimax were the people who did mine but there are even more companies around now.

Thanks for that, Optimax was the 1st one to come up on google. So, they have been around a long time and seem one of the cheapest. I have no intention of having it done in Spain, licensing is not very rigid.

I have had heard good reports of LASERVISION, here in Marbella, Ricardo Soriano, I think it costs about 2000 euros total for both eyes.
if you ask your optician for advice be prepared for them to put you off, or tell you it´s not possible for your eyes etc, their clients going for laser treatment is not good for their business !!

not all the laser places use the same equipment nor the same method, check carefully before just comparing prices Katy

I agree with Julian. I know several people who have had this done. The minority have had no problem but most seem to be squinting all of the time.

I think you need to go to a reputable surgeon who's main consideration is your best interest rather than the bulge in his wallet.

Yes that's my worry too, it's advertised all over the place like botox injections  I'd rather go see someone reputable even if double the price. But still not sure I could cope with the procedure, would want to close my eyes

The laser stops automatically when it detects any eye movement.

The only squinting I do is when I forget my sunglasses. I think mine cost £500 per eye 10 years ago (special Xmas promotion) and I haven't had a day's problem in all that time.

If it's any help, I opted to have my eyes done so that I can see distance when driving etc but I need (needed) glasses for reading and computer work. At that time, my eyes were right on the border line for being done. I think that the limits have been broadened since then. My sister-in-law had them done just before me and she has had nada problems.

As someone mentioned, reputable companies are the better bet.

Was that when you got them rose tinted whenever lawyers are mentioned Beach?

I don't know about rose-tinted... seeing red, more like. Image :D

Luckily I don't need glasses or an eye job. Not yet, anyway.

Has anyone had the eye laser op. in Malaga recently. I was quoted 3700 pounds by Optical Express in the U.K. which seems expensive.

When I no longer see opticians wearing glasses, I will consider getting mine done.
Great to see a bit of nostalgic humor from a former poster, I had almost forgotten how funny he could be.
