International Driving Permit
At some stage next year we will be visiting our daughter and family in New Zealand.
We often hire a car in NZ, or drive our daughter's car.
Unfortunately, now that I am on a Spanish driving licence I will need to get an International Driving Permit. Never needed one when I had a UK licence but NZ needs a translation of any licence not in English.
It does seem daft as the licence is in standard European format (more or less) and there is next to no Spanish writing on it, but rules are rules.
Any idea where I can get an IDP in Spain?

Re: International Driving Permit
You get it from your local Trafico office.
The detailed requirements are here

Re: International Driving Permit
Steve, we needed one when we went to Australia a couple of years ago, and it's really easy. We just filled in the form, took it along with the required photos to trafico, paid at the office and waited for our number to be called (take a book just in case!) . They issued it on the spot. Think it cost about 9€.

All sounds straight forward.
Am I right in assuming that the nearest Trafico office to Velez Malaga is in Malaga? Is it easy to find?

Type "Max Estrella Malaga" into Google maps and it will show you exactly where it is or just click this link:

Having trouble finding the form on the DGT web site. Is it available there and does anyone have a link to it? I can normally find these things but struggling with this one.
Cheers

Re: International Driving Permit
Thanks Beach. I did come across that but wasn't sure as it doesn't seem to mention permiso internacional de conduccion. I'll take it with me and if it is wrong I expect I can get one at Trafico.
Only thing that gets me is when I try to fill the form in online. As soon as I input my NIE it tells me that it isn't a valid NIE. Perhaps I'll resort to using a pen.

Re: International Driving Permit
This is a generic form so I assume that there isn't one specifically for this purpose.
If you click OK on the 'CIF Invalid' message you can continue to complete the form.

beachy put the map link up there - it just looks harder than it is.
come in towards malaga, take the 357 turn off to cartama, stay on the right as you make the turn, go down the slip road round the roundabout and take the third exit (the big road). go along there for about 200m and you get to a junction with traffic lights, you need to go straight over, but then round the junction as if you are doing a u turn**, go back over and park there or take the first right as you go back towards the 357 and park round there.
**the traffico building is the one right in front of you from this point.
oh, and you will be accosted by a woman in her 20s outside on the steps, asking if you need a medical

Re: International Driving Permit
Is the payment office in the Trafico offices at Malaga or is it a visit to the bank?

Can't swear to it in Malaga - we live in Seville, but there was a cash desk in Trafico there. You queue up and pay and they give you a number - bit like the deli counter in a supermarket - and then you wait!

Re: International Driving Permit
the payment "desk" (it looks like a bank or a post office, but more english - with the bullet proof glass), is on the left as you enter traffico.
if you´d read my "how to change your licence at traffico" you´d of known hehe

Re: International Driving Permit
An old thread I know but I will need an international driving permit early next year. I followed the links here but but they now just revert to the home page. I have searched the DGT site but haven't found the right page. Has the system changed now?
