Chain Saw

Postby Lyric » Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:41 am

My chain saw has a massive oil leak.
On the advice of my Spanish neighbour I have taken it to a local mechanic.
He has no English naturally but seems to have identified the problem which again seems to be where the pipe from the tank attaches at the opposite end to the tank.
Apart from telling me to collect it on Tuesday afternoon he kept pointing to the position of the leak and saying "Bomba Bomba".
One is not understanding this, Is he saying what I think he is saying that I need a new pump ?
I didn't think it would have one for chain lubrication, but it is the first chain saw I have had, you only need them for extreme defense in Salford !

Hi Lyric,
There is a pump to lubricate the chain.

If you Google for a parts list for your make/model they usually show exploded diagrams and you can see how it is put together.
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Unlikely Dave I am very afraid of it !

Thanks Enrique why don't I think of the obvious, it doesn't give a parts list but does say it has a removable aluminium oil pump !

When I think, not very often, it must have a pump, naturally

Enrique. Respect if you saw up your own logs from prunings using just a bow saw.

I took my chain saw in for its service (one issue was it wasn't oiling properly) and it needed a new pump. It spends most of April and some of March sawing logs each year.

More respect. We bought a pole pruner off Ebay(100 euros). Fifth of the price of Stihl jobs. Couldn't manage another year of hand pruning 50 to 80 year old trees!

Can't disagree with sawing keeping you warm. You keep warm collecting them, keep warm taking them from your stack to the living room. By then you are so tired you just go to bed!

Next you will be telling us you don't use a hand held(or tractor mounted) tree shaker just a few garden canes to knock the olives off into your upturned sombrero

Respect indeed, my back has trouble with a big Chain Saw session never mind by hand !

My Spanish neighbour has just effectively given (5€) me a stack of pruning from last and this year but his idea of what will fit the fire and mine differ a little and most of the logs need cutting into three or four.
I just need to find somewhere for the fresh stuff to season.
